Thanks for the comments, but my luck just hit rock bottom. I just woke up to find out they have rung my dad, ( i'm on night shifts so i'm sleeping through the day ) and they have said the gearbox is unrepairable and the total cost is now £860.

I'm so fuming it's unreal, I should'nt if left this to my dad but i've had no choice. There has been no oil on my drive where the car parks, there was never any problems with that gearbox at all. They are trying to screw me over, I will ask to see the old gearbox when I go for the car.

As for the spacers/ hub damage... they said the wheels damaged the hub and bearings because there were no spacers on.

The battery being illegal was something to do with the insecure terminal I guess.

you need to find out why they deem it to be unrepairable... sounds like a fast one to me but Im not saying Thats definately What theyre doing. Dont go in all guns blazing just calmly ask them about it What have they found why has it happened etc etc... Ive known garages to drop boxes before and give a similar story... Ask then to let you come and see the fault if they are worth their mustard they wont hesitate to let you see but if they get cagey ask yourself why.

Seems that the gearbox had a leak, or a crack in the casing, which was leaking into th clutch. I saw the gearbox and was suprised to see it to be honest.

The car drives lovely now, only one new thing bugs me... as I drove the car back the brake pedal kept knocking and pushing back slightly and I pushed it. Is this air in the system and does it need bleeding? I have good pads and discs.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to buying some extra long wheel bolts and spacers for my Stilo aswell, as it's the alloys damaging the wheel bearings. They move about a lot and the garage said spacers would fix this.

Still waiting for my new backbox I ordered about a week ago now.

Going to give the car a clean today and add these which I got:

Next plans for the car once I save up again, hopefully won't be on a big garage bill, but I would like the refurb the alloys. De-badge the grill and sooner or later get soon coilovers for it. But that's way in the future at this point.

Anyone know if the badges on the back, (Fiat + Stilo + 16v) just pop off, or are there holes behind them?

Lastly, a couple of pictures from last week:

Sounds like the ABS kicking in (pulsing sensation)? Sure the pads and discs are in good condition?

I didn't find out my last Stilo pads / discs were heavily worn until the ABS activated in normal traffic / road conditions and the car nearly slid into the car in front! Not what you want!

Could this be to do with the ABS sensor on the wheel bearing? Surely the garage would of put this in proply?

Yep could be your ABS unit if the pads/discs are pretty new. I've a few troubles with ABS before but through my own silly errors - running different size tires up fron thatn the back causes the wheel sensors to throw up a skid scenario causing the ABS to come on in normal driving lol and now I have two seized rear calipers htucked behind the hubs which makes the brakes rather spongy and makes the ABS come on also! (n) Air in the system would give a "spongey" feel to the pedal - plenty of travel with very little force applied to the brakes.

Aye mate the badges are just stuck on with an adhesive, what I done was just carefuly slide a knife behind it and pop them off, then use something like Auto Glym intensive tar remover to get any excess adhesive off the paintwork. Here's mine de-badged (re-badged with the centre style badge) and de-wipered:

Food for thought?? :)

P.s your car looks sweet man!!

And yeah before checking the ABS unit itself it may be best to check the wheel sensors on each corner then check the unit.

I'll be sure to check before going into more detail. If it is the ABS it will be going back to the garage.

Thanks for the de-badge picture too, your car looks good like that. Especially with the centred Fiat badge.

I think it turned out a treat. but Fiat must of used a ton of adehsive, took forever to peel and polish off:

Can anyone tell me if this will look good, like not a crappy thing is it?... http://www.nicedeals.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=3_311_65_1281&products_id=12730

Looks great man! Don't put the centre badge on though I think your colour looks better without badges on the back, nice job (y) What I would have done though is put the Italy sticker inside of the black rear window surround, just my opinion but still looks good :)

Personaly I'm not a fan of the grille, seen plenty like those on the new corsas and they're hideous on them :yuck: These are a bit more expensive but look a lot better, if you cut out the centre square behind the grille on the bumper it will look nice :)

Thanks mate, I was torn between putting the sticker in the black or in the window clear, in the end I put it in the middle haha.
I do like that grill, and was contemplating on it. How hard is it to cut the centre square behind it. I wanna be a bit different with it, I was thinking yesterday the amount of cars I see with the grill all way across, and like you say, especially on Corsas.

It won't be the hard, it's just plastic and is a couple mm thick so nothing a wee junior hacksaw couldn't manage (y) The other grill is very common and tbh is probably a step down from the standard one! The unique tuning grill is an improvement over the standard one (y)

Yeah I do think the unique grill is better. Think i'll have to invest when I start focusing on the looks of the car.
My new standard backbox came today, went to get the old one of and it wouldn't budge the slightes, going to wait til the weekend and get my mate o help me, he has better equipment than me.
Rung the garage up who did my clutch, because the brakes havn't been the same since, and it's booked in tomorrow so they can sort it out.
Lastly went to Motorsave about my wheels, they said I need special kind of bolts for the wheels, not spacers. Always trusted motorsave so i'll be saving up for them too, at £3.50 a bolt they aint cheap.

That's expensive for bolts! And for 16 of them

Have you checked the fluid level in the brale/clutch resevoir? If my memory serves me right the clutch fluid line coming out from the resevoir is above the brake lines so that if there is a leak in your clutch line it's your clutch that goes rather than your brakes (y) But if the clutch is fine but the brakes are **** then perhaps the garage got air in the system when bleeding the clutch after fitting? How old/new are your discs/pads?

Clutch is fine, and so is the levels in the resevoir. Pads and disks are almost new, and it isn't air in the system as I bled them proply myself. I think they have put the wheel bearing in incorrectly. We will see tomorrow.

News:

Bought some Aero blades today, fitted lovely, nice addition to the car.
Found the same wheel bolts i'm after but for £40 now, should be getting those soon.
New backbox is fitted and sounds very quiet, I like it.
Garage has said the spring on the left side suspension hasn't been fitted proply, that needs sorting.
Just gave the car the full works too, wash polish etc, few hours well spent.

Off out later and will take some pictures!

Heres some plans too:
Different alloys, rather blades or even just refurb the ones on it.
Coilovers!
Little bits of smoothing here and there.
All the little scratches, dints etc will be sorted too.

Wobbly wheel bolts ordered, and also the wheels are getting refurbished on Wednesday/ Thursday in GunMetal Grey, hopefully i'll like them and decide to keep them for a while. Would love some Rotiform BLQ's though :).
Other than that, and some new car mats nothing exciting. Hopefully get some coilovers some day soon.
