Technical New speakers

Has anyone replaced the in-door speakers in their 500? Considering upgrading the factory job to something a little better. Any suggestions? Not looking for a doof-doof sound, just better quality through my iPhone and FM stations.

I haven't done it but I am interested. Having said that I find the sound through the factory speakers to be pretty good, what's your gripe with them?

I think the factory speakers are okay, but being factory fitted they would be cheap. I find them a little tinny and even adjusting the EQ doesn't seem to help. Better speakers may offer a richer sound... I'll make some enquiries and get a quote...

Went to a few car audio places over the weekend. There seem to be a couple of options. First option is to just buy an amp which could make a reasonable difference - amp would fit under the seat and costs about $500.
For an even better result, the next option is to then upgrade all the the speakers in the car for about another $500. The factory speakers are quite small, 5.5", despite the speaker covers on the door looking much bigger. So for about a thou, you can achieve quite a significant audio upgrade. I'm still in contemplation mode on this....

Thank you for the update PS. The real problem of course is that you can't know just how it'll sound until you do it - and then it's too late if you're unhappy.

I don't need any more volume but I fitted a Pioneer TS-WX110A active subby under the passenger seat and, while some reviewers were critical of its performance, I'm very happy with the result. It's never going to crack the neighbour's windows and at full bore gets a little boomy but in such a small car it adds just the level of bottom end I felt was lacking. A bigger unit mightn't fit under the seat and boot space in the 500C is at a premium so it is of course a compromise.

Factory speakers are inevitably the bare minimum so my interest now is perhaps fitting a set of better quality. $400-500 is pretty high if any improvement is marginal however.

What brand of equipment were you looking at?
