Hi all,

Hoping someone on here could help (Maybe jrkitching) as read some long threads about dashboard lights coming on.

In particular Orange warning triangle, flashing mileage, airbag & seatbelt, S/S inop message and fuel cutoff Inop message

I have read loads about the Loom in the rear boot being susceptible to breaking and causing these lights to come on, however we had a new touchscreen fitted for my daughter, all seemed fine and we drove it for a week or so before giving her the car, we didn't use the screen at all really and just saved it for her, shes had it now for a week or so and now all of the above lights have come on. Spoken to the fitter who feels it would be the new screen as it had a CANBUS module on, however reading previous threads on here could be the Loom in the rear hatch, would be very unlucky as not even used the car much other than to open it once or twice since giving her the car for the wires to then break.

Anyone have any ideas on this before i pay to get the screen removed, i will detach battery and check the Loom beforehand to make sure as JRKITCHING advised on his thread from a few years ago. But any further advice would be amazing as paid quite abit to buy screen and get it fitted only to then pay to get it removed and be back at square one.

Thanks
J

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Yes, detach the battery and check the hatch wiring first - the new screen could just be a coincidence.

But - and it's a big but - whenever a problem arises shortly after work has been done, it's more likely than not that the cause was something done as part of that work. The fact that everything worked fine for a week after the new unit was fitted goes somewhat against this, but you do also have to disturb some wiring to fit a touchscreen....

So it's not absolutely clear cut if the screen is responsible, and it's no means certain that uninstalling it will put things back to where they were.

Sorry not to be more helpful, but for sure that combination of warning lights has been seen several times before as a result of rear hatch loom faults.

Thanks @jrkitching, i have checked the loom and removed the gromet and all seems very new with no rips or splits in any of the wiring.

I have booked in to have the screen removed Monday as the guys who fitted it believe it could be the Canbus that came with the unit for the steering controls? So effectively paying to have it removed to see if that works. Cant think of anything else, should i get diagnostics before doing this to see if it brings up any other issues that may have been disturbed during the install?

Thanks again

Sadly no more can I. It would appear that, as is often the case, the problem has been caused by the last piece of work that was done.

Thing is, can you be sure diagnostics will work properly with the unit connected?

If you have a cheap/free way of running diagnostics after it's been removed, that could be worth doing.

I would suggest that you invest a a multi meter, doesn’t have to be an expensive one, cheap and nasty is fine provided it can read OHMs OK.

Now you need to set your meter onto OHMs and then go to your OBD socket with the ignition off. Then put one probe in pin 7 and the other in pin 14, doesn’t matter which way round.

You need to be reading around 120 OHMs, if it’s not then you need to start unplugging the last additions / modifications that were done to the car.

Thanks for your response. I can check the readings with multi meter but won't be able to start unplugging the last additions etc as it's a fitted screen with all wiring behind it.

The guys that fitted this believe it is potentially the canbus module this unit came with that is used for steering wheel buttons and reverse camera. We didn't use the unit other than turning engine on for a week after fitting until we gave it to our daughter, obviously she has used the unit and steering wheel functions alot more since?

Very confusing and annoying ha

@Automods @jrkitching

I have now been back to the sound and audio place that fitted the new screen and they removed it and replaced with original fiat radio and removed faults, however all lights come back on when starting the engine again, so it seems even with the original radio in i am getting these faults.

Check loom in boot and all looks in very good condition, checked under seats all connections intact and seem fine.

The list is with the orange line at the top is the only light that cannot be deleted, all the others can be deleted but pop up again on car starting

They are an audio place so not massive knowledge on this but did say airbag module keeps coming up?

Any pointers or ideas would be amazing as ive kept the screen in as it didnt help putting the old fiat radio back to how it was

Thanks in advance

Hi @Automods

I don't seem to have anything in pin 7 (attached pic).

I put one in pin 6 and one in pin 14 and it starts at 1.0 and slowly drops 0.9, 0.8 etc down to 0.0.

Apologies don't know anything about cars or electrics
Thanks
