Maybe head.off inspection and new timing kit
These 1242 for the 500 seem to be @£250 from writeoffs
You will spend the same on timing kit.. add 1 sump pan
Your 500 isnt likely to wear out a 2nd motor..another 60+ thousand miles
Or.. just fit a new head to yours..

but the age thing brought me here to ask advice and opinions.
the big turn off for me is if you put this in to find out in a month or two the valve stem seals are solid from age and your using oil again.
its certainly not the easy fix it looked initially.
I'm struggling to pick up a second hand engine surprisingly enough.
so I think the best plan now is to go back to the start, get the original engine out strip it and see exactly how much work it needs and take it from there
