The door lock on my Marea has finaly died. Not wanting a separate key just for that door I am thinking of geting a lock set off ebay, but how do I program the new keys into the ECU without signing over my first born to FIAT? The sets I am looking at come compleate with 2 blue and 1 red key.

Well I have taken the plunge and ordered a new lock set of ebay £58.50

I have discovered that you can open up the keys and remove the chips, so it should be a straight forward job of swapping the chips from the old keys into the new ones. I hope :worship:
If not I will end up with an extra key on the key ring, but at least the drivers door will be secure, at the moment you can open it with anything!!

let us know if it works m8??

Will do.

May take a while. Going into hospital on Thursday to have my knee done. so grovelling about changing locks or anything else will be a no no for a few months. (n)

Thanks, just a simple cartilage trim. in at 7:AM out in the evening. Quite looking forward to a days rest:p

Help!

New lock set has come but it has no spring clips to hold the locks in the door handles. And no one seams to have them. Any idea where I can get some from. The old ones have all but disintegrated. They look like the ones that hold window winders on to the spindle on most cars (c shape with 2 stick out bits at the ends)

Will have to try a few other shops. I have plenty of time now my op has been cancelled. After waiting 6 hours in a chair not a bed in a freezing cold room from 7:30 am:bang:

Ok just finished changing my lock set. Never managed to get a spring clip so I improvised with a piece of key ring (y)

Now to the chips in the keys.

The new set came with 1 red and 2 blue keys, there was no chip in the new red key so I simply opened them up and put the chip from the old key into the new key.

The blue key I have been using was an aftermarket copy and just like the Red key can be opened and the chip removed

The blue keys that came with the set are original Fiat parts and are sealed.

They do have chips in them but they aper to be blank, they wouldn't program into the immobiliser anyway. I decided to open up one and try to fit the chip. A few minuets with a craft knife and a dremil later.

A bit off fiddling later and a frantic search on the floor for a dropped chip and its ready for gluing.

It works but only time will tell if it will stay together. The other key I am going to take to the friendly key man on the market to see if he can program it.

Well my friendly lock cutter seams to have vanished from the local market :(

So being an impatient person I decided to have a go at the second new key myself.

This is the original very worn blue key that came with the car.

After slitting and removing the cover you get this.

Joy of joys it has a removable chip :slayer:

Simply did the same as with the other new key (see above)

All keys work (y)

I just need to change the glove box lock. Dose anyone have any idea how to do this
