need to know what this is for urgently!!

Does anyone know what the multi connector between the gear stick and handbrake is for?
It has 8 wires going into it.
I need to know can i use it to take a 12v feed off or is it dead? (yes i will check to see if it has power after i post this).
If i can use this it would save me a lot of mucking around loseing valuable skin from my hands.

if its under the panel what pund coins slot into then its for heated seats, mine is also there and as i have a sx no heated seats , its a standard loom for all the cars so if it aint in the wires are still present

Some people on here have the snoopers wired into that, i've been posting asking what wires are for what for a while with no response now so if you find out all help will be muchly appreciated matey
