Im gonna be keeping my punto and when its back on the road i want to get the sound system up to scratch but im a complete novice at anything ice related.
I dont have a lot of money to spend really but i do want something at least half decent. Firstly i need a new head unit because mine doesnt seem to want to be ipod compatable but thats what i get for buying from ebay i guess. Anyway i listen to mostly metal,screamo type music but i do like a bit of dubstep so i would need a system that can handle both them genre's. Ive got the standard fiat sub in my boot which is okay..i guess i just want something that can go a bit louder without crackling and sounding like s**t tbh. so my guess is id need a new sub, front speakers, amps and a hu? Can anyone suggest any that would be good with my punto?

Hmm i dont really know Screamo and its frequency range let me try and find some and play it on a couple of systems so i can give more suitable advice.
 
Ok im just having a listen. I would say a 10" sub would suffice but you will need a good Mid bass up front IMO. I can see a 12" being a bit over powering but may be more diverse if you like to listen to Dub Step and other wobbly stuff.

How much effort are you willing to put in. If you go for a set of components i could see a benefit of angling the mid bass to get the mid range on axis.

I was thinking of getting a 10" sub and amp package then a seperate amp for my front comps if needed. Im just not sure what im looking for really.
Do you mean that id need to like angel the front comps outwards so there facing me more than towards my legs?
 
Considering you have little knowledge of ICE you seem to know what you need and what needs doing with it.

As for the screamo / dubstep combo, a 10" would be ok, but a 12" with the level turned down would probably give more flexability as you could increase it for your bassy dubstep tracks.

My HU has a dedicated sub preout so I can change the level on the fly. Comes in so handy when you like Metal/Happy hardcore/DnB/rock/Dubstep/garage.
 
Yeah that pretty much what i mean. Its not the easiest thing to do but i think that kind of music would benefit from being able to here the mid range a bit more directionally.

Smokey you know Happy Hardcore makes sense. It takes a lot to get it to sound right though :devil:

So id be looking at probably a 12" sub instead? I just dont really get the watts of stuff and how many channel amps i would need, So you can change how your sub acts just from the HU? Thats pretty cool lol What would that be called so i can look out for that option too?
 
A 12" in a sealed box could work. TBH i have learned it doesnt really matter what size it is, its what you do with it :p

As for watts. You want to look at a speaker or amps RMS figure. You dont ideally want the RMS figure on the amp to be less than the sub.
Also it doesnt actually matter what power handling a speaker has it has no bearing on its volume. If you put 200w RMS up a 200w RMS sub a 2000w RMS sub running off the same 200w RMS amp will probably be quieter.

As for channels. You will need a mono (single channel) for the sub. And dependant on what Head unit you get a 2 or 4 channel amp to run the components.

Most head units will have some kind of sub level control and increasingly the frequency range.
 
You will need a head unit with 2 or more sets of preouts. 3 sets are going to be a tall order on your budget.

Also i would say go second hand for the sub and amps as your budget wont get you much. Ebay would be a good bet. Try looking at JL. I have heard the W3 series and you can get a very good sub for the money.
 
Good start and crtainly a good way of doing things on a budget. If your not in a hurry then continue to do the same for the other bits. Try and find a JL 12 W3 V2. They are cheap second hand but sound brilliant. I got one for £28 delivered and in an enclosure lol.

Yeah i noticed someone selling one on another forum and couldnt refuse once id got the spec up and the reviews that its had and its a good price too! Yeah il keep an eye out and im not in a hurry tbh i just want to do it gradually when i get money now and again

Prob wont get one on a budget but I can personally recommend this HU:

It has a dedicated sub output so you can control the level like someone else said from the HU. Perhaps there is an older model somewhere you can pick up 2nd hand (probably without Ipod control but then many of us have never even used it so why pay for it)?

I got my sub on ebay, and although its not the greatest in the world its more than enough for me in a Panda! Its a vibe-sq8evo (so had the amp built in) costing about 60 notes but it was like new. Same sub new was about 150 from memory. I built my system up gradually due to cash constraints and the guys on here (particularly volxstu) have been great. Didnt have a clue about car audio but with the help of the guys on here installed the entire system from scratch, probably saving £100's in installation charges. Just wish I had been wise like you and asked before buying kit, then I wouldnt have paid £100 for a sony headunit which currently lives in the shed!
 
Right, yet another bump lol. Im sick of my headunit not working properly and having to use a stupid radio transmitter thing to get any of my music through so when i get paid, i am buying a new headunit.
