G'day all,

Working on my 2013 Fiat Ducato (VIN ZFA25000002169753). Driveshaft came out (N/S side - gearbox side) and this large thin black O-ring fell out with it. No obvious groove in the gearbox bore where shaft sits.

Pic attached - looks ~120-150mm diameter, maybe 3-4mm thick. Cleaned everything but can't find where it belongs. Gearbox mouth looks fine, no missing plate/carrier obvious.

  • Gearbox output seal?
  • Flange gasket?
  • Something from carrier housing?
  • Or dropped from somewhere else?
Don't want to refit shaft without knowing - scared of gear oil dump!

Anyone seen this before? Which side exactly and how does it sit? Part number appreciated.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi,
I am having trouble seeing any "black" O-rings in either of those photos, the first one is out of focus but looks in the pic grey more than anything, the second photo with the "seal" on the drive shaft which appears to be in better focus, when zoomed in looks to me to be a tension or "garter" spring from a lip seal. See the attached photo for a cross section a of lip seal, one could assume it is from the drive shaft seal & has somehow slipped out of the seal assembly itself.
Cheers

Thanks for the response, I just purchased a new seal and chucked the O-ring
