I am assuming that because the RMS isn't that high and you can get amps with the same output for much less, the sound quality is excellent?

Correct. The phrase "they don't make 'em like they used to" has never been more appropriate. PG always rate their amps quite low, in reality they'll kick out much more, but that amp is well suited to your DLS comps.

Well that PGM44 sold for £120 and even then it hadnt reached it's reserve

A little high powered for your comps so make sure you keep the gains turned down!
What's the problem with the 7x10's?

I have no problem with my 7x10s, granted the sound quality on them isn't great but they provide excellent backfill and they make up for the fact that I only have a 10" sub
I plan to keep the gains pretty low, I only got the more powerful one cos it was £15 more than the one that provides half the power, plenty of room for expansion Also as the comps are very high quality I can chuck about 70RMS through em without them batting an eyelid. My biggest problem is getting the gains just right without blowing the speakers
Luke (ICE mod) is going to help me install it as it's going to be tricky as he tells me that it's best to mount it in the front (as having long speaker wires from the boot isn't a good idea) and the Punto is very limited on space for amps in the front (not to mention my distribution block is in the boot ). And probably the worse thing is that I have to drill into my beautiful doors, I can't watch

It's all to do with 'soundstage'. For the best SQ, the sound needs to come from in front of you. Eg: would you stand at a concert with your back to the band?
Having powerful rear speakers upsets the soundstage, plus, the DLS comps he has will sound amazing and the 7 x 10s won't be a patch on them. After spending so much on the DLSs, it'd be a shame to drown them out with the 7 x 10s.

Nah, mount it in the boot. Get a distribution block so you can run both your amps off the main feed from your battery. Make sure your earth is good.
Run power down one side, signal from the head unit down the other and speaker wire down the middle, it'll be fine.
