You don't have enough money to go the turbo route either, only just read the older post!

The only turbos worth having are on diesels. They breath air only and the more you can stuff in the better. Petrol turbos are a serious PIA. Don't bother.

For N/A engines you are better off fitting a bigger one**. To see how hard that is look at the 20V Punto posts.

If you must have serious performance go and get yourself a bike licence. Even a 35bhp restricted bike will give most cars a run at the lights. Today's 600s make well over 100bhp but weigh 180 kilos or less.
That's at least 555bhp per ton.
To survive you have to be a good driver so your car skills also improve.

** turbos effectively increase an engine's pumping capacity much the same as a bigger engine does. By the time you have all the plumbing and radiators etc the bigger capacity engine is no heavier than the turbo'd engine.

the thing is I dont want to sell my punto because I love how it looks and drives. I got no reason to sell it, I just want to make it faster.

I think the car is standard 59bhp?.

Would a induction kit or something like that make much difference?.

there is always more in there that book, the old punto mk1 60 had 60bhp (book) so must be more in yours with it being mpi.
plenty can be got out of it with out a turbo.
good induction
good exhaust
re-profiled cam
re map
you will see your 80bhp easy

They can make decent power but at high revs and high cost, in my opinion like I said before it'd be cool to do that to a cinq but the punto is heavier. May aswell start with a cinq and stick a 1242 in it!

I remember the time these posts were asked daily, wonder why :p

as been said, 80bhp is doable without a turbo and way cheaper without one.

whatever anyone says a turbo FIRE is only good for a track car, and even then it has to be done right or it won't be that fast..

That sounds a good idea. Do you know any good websites/places I could look at for the sporting engine etc?.

Also with buying a induction kit/exhaust, whats the best ones to go for?.

Thanks guys

Check your sig for guides and FAQS. If that fails to answer your questions, try the search function. Remember you have a Punto not a Focus.

If you have a grand to spare and someone who is good with cars why not source a punto sporting engine, gearbox, ecu and loom etc etc and get that fitted. You will see your 80bhp ;) and have room for mods
A good suggestion but you will get £500 for a mk1 punto in decent nick, buy a mk2 putno sporting for under £2k so your spending about a grand for a sporting.

Doing it your way you would need a grand for parts and maybe some labour costs as even friends with the know how will struggle with an engine swap. Besides that the car will be off the road for weeks if not months. And with £1000 for parts then declaring an engine swap on the insurance (about +£800 on the premium if not more) your spending more and causing more hastle.

Easier, cheaper and quicker to just buy an 80bhp sporting.

Still better off with a sensible car and a quick bike. Until you've swung a bike through twisty curves you haven't lived.
Even better on a 2 stroke. ;D

Instead of putting a Sporting engine in why not look for a Sporting instead...?

GSR Induction + Remap can get you near enough 100bhp with the 1.2 16v engine. Plus you'd have the interior, wheels, spoiler and skirts. Anything you have done to your car looks-wise could also be swapped over.

Either that or GSR/Supersprint/Remap (what dave said) on the 8v. Probably best to learn which Mk it is before you start spending money though...!

whats that? never heard of it?. I dont know much so u you have to speak stupid to me

what and with that it would be a straight engine swap?. How much would the enginge cost to buy?

Thank you

Wake up!

If you want HGT power, buy an HGT.

If you fit HGT power to your basic car, then you are going to need the brakes and suspension to match, and then its still going to be a modified car that your insurance will crucify you over.

Dead right. Bigger engine swaps are for top class engineers or muppets and either way the insurance will crucify you.

That said I'd love to have a 20V in my HGT. But the 1.8 is a tight enough squeeze so while its said to be "possible" it wont be happening.

Why don't you just buy a 1.1i saxo! its cheap on insurance and is fast! for the size car anyway! 0-60 bout 12 seconds (out accelerated my mums 1.8 Carina e, by far i might add) Or go all out and buy a saxo VTR - 1.6 engine. even faster! group 7 insurance!
Saxo VTS about the same maybe tiny bit better - group 14 insurance! They're great cars!!
