Punto (Mk2/2b) My black MK2 :)

Introduction

Thaught id finally get my car in this section :)

mods done so far:

  • Tinted lights
  • New door cards/centre console/handbrake surround (from HGT)
  • Removed rub strips
  • Blue dash lights
  • Rear speakers fitted
  • Seat covers (purely to hide cigarette burns from the people who had it before me)
  • Pillars sprayed black (just to freshen up)

In progress:

  • Spraying some interior parts (cd facia, outer rings on air vents, centre console and handbrake surround and possibly speaker grills)

The blue trim shown on those pictures is temporary, this was a practice on some spare parts.... i managed to get a good finish and it is a nice colour, just not for my car!
with the wiring, once i have located the interior light wires is it a case of stripping some outer plastic, connecting the new wire and securing it with electrical tape? i really want to do this to my incoming mk2 and would buy the door lights but only apply them to the heaters inside

so how would i get the wiring from the lights (in the heater) to the interior light by the windscreen?

i think what i did is took the vents out (remove the cd player if you have the standard one or the facia surround if yours is aftermarket) remove all the allen screws then pull the vents out)

fed the wire down behind the centre console and attatched it to my existing lights... you could either feed the wire through the drivers footwell then into the interior light wiring or take a relay off the cigarette lighter light and find a 12v live for the switch side (this involves slightly more complicated wiring but the lights will come on with your side lights.... thats what my interior ones do, its only the handle ones that use the interior light)

how many allen screws are there to remove? 2 or 4? just noticed that some of the vent pieces have fallen out so need to get access and fix them, then can have a look at the lights at the same time

steelies mate... there not damaged like, got myself some nice alloys off a GP, didnt fit :( so i sold em for more than what i paid :)

and to remove the steering wheel, disconnect the battery (it is advisable to leave it for half an hour)... undo the 3 allan screws at the back to remove the airbag, unplug the airbag and wire for the horn

you will see a black piece of plastic, take this off (i used pliers.... i didnt put it back on either so i wasnt bothered about damaging it) this reveals a 25 or 26mm nut, (sure its 25)... remove this with a socket and extension (make sure the wheel is straight or mark it's position with tipex or masking tape) the steering wheel will then come off.... fitting is the opposite of removal

Hope this has helped :)

yehh the centre bore is too small, you can have it bored out and use wobbley bolts but your better just getting alloys that fit

and i havnt got round to it yet, iv sort of got used to it now... i might do it some time soon

good luck with your wheel :)

what you doing with your old one? just out of interest

by the time you've bored it all out though... costs probably around the same (including cost of the alloys)

My Old steering wheel? It'l probably be joining the rest of my original interior down the cellar ahaha.

yehh thats why i got rid of them, they were nice though!

paid 140 for the alloys and got quoted £60 to bore them out if i got the tyres took off and if their lathes could handle that size

sold them for £200

i was going to sell mine, not worth the hassle though, mines with my other interior in the garage
