My wife unknowingly had a disagreement with a bump in a farm track & in the process took a 10p size chunk out the bottom of the sump
Oil all over the road a 'Engine oil pressure low, switch off engine" message on the dash. The engine was switched off almost immediately & Mr RAC man towed the car home.
We paid for the sump to be Ali-welded & refitted at a reputable garage. It now runs perfectly, just as it was previously, except...
...when accelerating in any gear, you feel the turbo kicking in, but also notice a strange "wurrrrrrrrrrring" noise. Sorry, crap description I know, but it's how it sounds!
e.g. 1st gear, pulling away, all sounds OK, get to approx 2000rpm, boost kicks in, but so does the "wurrrrrring". It also does it in other gears. Constant speed (i.e. seemingly when turbo not on boost) I can't notice the noise.
As I say, the car's running perfectly, except this noise. It's personally more of a slight annoyance to us, as we knew it didn't have any noises before the sump mishap.
We put it back in the garage today, they said they'd found the fault (Heatshield loose & vibrating on the exhaust), but no sooner than half way home, I pulled out of a junction &.....the wurrrrring was back again
Anyone ever experienced the dreaded sump damage in a multi, or have a clue whether this sort of thing could cause an issue with the turbo? As I say, it seems to be working perfectly, but i have that niggly doubt now. We love our multi to bits though.
Maybe I have to take it to a dreaded Fiat dealer (nearest one to here is Crawley, Surrey)
