General multijet 130 water ingress

This may not be news to some, but according to the latest edition of Motorcaravan, Motorhome Monthly, FIAT will shortly be issuing recall notices to rectify the fault by resealing the gap between the scuttle and the base of the screen. It further states that a shield of some sort will be fitted to protect the engine from any future problems with water. The article then goes on to say that if in doubt, contact your dealer or FIAT direct.

I have sent via the Fiat contact us e mail 3 emails over the last 4 weeks yet another today but never get a reply does the e mail work or don't they care is there another e mail where I can get a responce.
I am trying to establish where to take my vehicle re various re calls purchased in Germany last August but I live in Spain

Long wait if your stranded at the side of the road.??????????

Following your earlier advise I e mailed Fiat is it unreasonable to expect a reply?.I have had nothing from Fiat since I purchased and I wonder if they know where the vehicle is?.
Since I have very basic Spanish it would have made life so much easier if Fiat could advise local dealer and myself what is going on

Hi;
Just joined the forum, and you really sound as if you know what your doing.
I have a Ducato X250 March 2007 reg motorhome (Benimar 230T), but have never received a recall. Any suggestions, espeically if new parts have to be ordered for the water ingress problem.
Your advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi;
Benimar Motorhome on New Fiat chassis reg May 2007

Sorry to bore you with the old water ingress issue again, but FIAT have got me going around in circles.
I have had the recall done on the engine, but all they did was spray a anti rust/water repellent on the injectors, as if that solved the problem.

My local FIAT dealer AMC of Chelmsford, knows nothing about the 4 plastic parts that have been manufactured by FIAT to give better water protection, Engine cover, and 3 others(see latest issue of MMM, where editor has article on subject).

Please could somebody tell me a FIAT service centre that knows of these parts, there part numbers, so I can tell my local Fiat dealer what to order.

It would appear some FIAT owners have already had the plastic parts fitted, does anybody know under what recall number this is done on.

Hi;
Would it be possible for you to send me details of the latest recall.

thanks

Just bought a 2008 130 Multijet,but with
The injectors periodically under water they are already red
With rust. Scuttle drainage at the sides is a joke with two
small holes allowing the water a free run into the bay.
I drilled them out to fit "Homebase" sleeves & with garden
hose fitted & routed Behind the front fairing putting the water
on the ground where it should be,job done.(1).(this part can be
done with wiper in place). I later found that the
scuttle to Window rubber seal wasn't sealing and meant a bit
more work,So I had to remove the scuttle & found some of the
white plastic press studs were broken & weren't pressing The
rubber to the glass.(replaced with door trim press studs) So
belt & braces, new studs,& the two scuttle halfs sealed & screwed
together & finished off with a bead Of silicon underneath the
rubber seal (easier if the bonnet is removed, but simple enough)
incidently, bathroom silicon isn't man enough so visit a motor factors
for the good stuff).I wanted a fix & forget.(hopefully the windscreen
outlasts the van).I also fitted a drain to the air intake.(2).I then
sealed around the headlights.(3) ect as I didn't See any other way of
stopping water getting in. Then I sealed the bonnet sides with
plastic tube bedded in silicon.(4).(Heat tube in hot water first & swiftly
close the bonnet). I didn't think closed cell foam would last.
Finally with a cardboard template I made an engine cover from
hardboard painted with bitumen & fixed with clips.(5).(a flap for oil
& dipstick). (see photo). No way would I wait for Fiat to make a recall
(if ever) While my £40+ pride and joy rusted away. If you want
it done Right...do it yourself. As an afterthought, is this
why the battery has been Placed under the cab floor?.

I have just purchased a new Fiat ducato XLWB 3L on the 21/11/07 traveled 600km’s so far, which has the same problem, water leaking onto my injectors and corrosion over the rocker cover and injectors. By the way I’m in Sydney Australia and I just today 23/11/07 taken it to a fiat service center in Arndell park Western Sydney trucks, and they where quickly to say it was probably because I leaved near the ocean, I laughed I said in 2 days of owning it LOL. Any I don’t live near the ocean more like at least 40km’s away. Anyway she took photos and said she will email fiat Australia and take it from there. She also said that If I decided to go ahead with repairs and they find out that its not a manufactures fault I would liable for the incurred costs lol. I then called fiat Australia and spoke to a person by the name of Tim and he was quickly ready to have answers in there favour, explained that the ducato’s leaving the factory are 100% tested and do not show this problem they are also inspected upon arrival off the ship for damage so any vehicle with damage is noted, so he also went to say that it could of happed at the dealer or in transit from Italy to Sydney , he also went to say that warranty does not cover corrosion on the engine only the body. My stomach was becoming sicker and sicker, also went on to say don’t thing about it being a Friday just enjoy my weekend. Which made me even sicker. Im so disgusted. Will keep you guys informed of the outcome.

I know its an old post, but what was the outcome?

Hi fellow Aussie, luvduvs and other sufferers.
I too have the water problem with a 12/2008 delivery and the local dealer has carried out the recall patch-up and also the injection software upgrade and replaced the starter fuse.
I have another problem that they have not been able to rectify.
Black smoke from the exhaust -
The exhaust appears to be clean most of the time, but accelerating, and changing up through the gears it lays a cloud of black sooty smoke that an old Council bus would be proud of - just as you press down on the accelerator and re-engage the clutch.
It remains clear travelling uphill under load (even tried overload) - But as soon as you slip down a gear- with the subsequent de and re accelerating the black smoke reappears.
It sometimes loads up with so much fuel it almost nstalls. A bit like if you had applied full choke to a petrol engine.
This fault is pretty dangerous as one is usually overtaking when this occurs, and as you drop back a cog to maitain momentum -the engine dies until it clears itself.
Apart from the danger, it makes the operator look like a big fool who misjudged the vehicle's capability.
So much for Euro4
I owned a 2.8 litre Fiat, dragging an identical body around ,prior to buying this one, and even with 25% less torque you could rely on it to maintain its performance and allow safe overtaking.
There may be a thread somewhere concerning this smoke problem and I would very much appreciate being advised if this is so.
Regards,Bill

That doesn't sound right mate - take it back to the dealer :)

Re Black smoke.
Thanks for the prompt replies.I apologise for the incorrect delivery date. It should be December 2007.
Fiat 3 litre Ducato VIN ZFA 25000001236530 - 09/07
Local Fiat dealer claims to have carried out Recalls - 5221, 5247, 5248 but i don't know if this included an ECU ECR update. Would you have the official Fiat numbers for these?
Some owners may have this smoke problem and not be aware of same as it is only visible when travelling.
One has to adjust driver's external rear vision mirror to a position where any emission is visible. -alternatively get someone in a car to follow or drive alongside slightly to the rear.
I must restate that the smoke only appears when changing gear and re- accelerating.
It is almost as if it is triggered by the fact that the accelerator has been released and applied again.
For those that owned, or worked on, petrol engined cars prior to the advent of EFI, and fitted with a carburettor that had an accelerator pump, the fuel load up is similar to having incorrectly adjusted accelerator pump linkage, which resulted in an abnormal amount of fuel being dumped into the intake manifold, every time the accelerator was depressed, which resulted in the engine almost stalling and the issue of (too rich) black smoke.
I hope the above makes some sense, as that is about the only way I can think of describing what is happening.

Here`s an update on my Swift bolero.
I went to "Downies" the Fiat agent in Newtownards N.I. For it`s first service and was informed they will fit the covers to the engine and ancillary components in Fiat engines only (not Peugeot) and replace the scuttle with a redesigned one, so if your engine is wet get it dried out at Downies
Ph. 02891812525.
Incidentally I have no connection with Downies other than a very satisfied customer.:)
