Re: Engine bay water ingress

2 weeks since my last post. Obviously Fiat do NOT read these messages. My local Fiat dealer is aware of the problem of water leaking into the engine and advise me that Fiat are working on the problem and a 'fix' should be available by the end of September or beginning of October.

A number of motor home owners plan to picket the Fiat stand at the October Motorhome show in October.

Fiat will have to take notice!

Re: WATER INGRESS - NEW FIAT/PEUGEOT etc

Hi dose anyone have a motor home based on the new Fiat x/250 chassis if you do,have you got any problems with water ingress into the engine compartment? Some of my colleges on the M.H.F web site and of course myself do and it is causing rust and problems with the engines,I will be pleased to hear from you and your comments.:) thanks bill

I here that a fix is to be available sometime in October, there is some confusion however as some sources are quoting December.

Fiat need to issue a statement on this as a group of angry motor home owners plan to picket the Fiat stand at the October NEC motorhome show.

Flyers will be covertly handed out explaining the water leakage issue to visitors looking at Fiat based motor homes.

Re: WATER INGRESS - NEW FIAT/PEUGEOT etc

I`m another victim of a FiART rust bucket.Rusty injectors ect.Not a good enough responce from FiART,infact NO responce at all. They better do a good job of rectifying these motors coz theres a lot of p!55ed owners out there.(n)

Re: WATER INGRESS - NEW FIAT/PEUGEOT etc

Appears a recall will be issued in october?

http://www.ukmotorhomes.net/fiat-water-ingress.shtml

We have heard reports, from some owners, of a problem with new Fiat Ducato/Peugeot Boxer based motorhomes where water leaks through at the centre of the plastic tray at the bottom of the windscreen. The tray is in two halves and it seems that the seal is ineffective. The water leaks into the engine bay and collects around the injectors causing corrosion.
One owner has told us that, after contacting Fiat Customer Services, they were told that in mid October Fiat will recall the Ducato Camper owners that reported the problem and fit their modification kits.

Re: WATER INGRESS - NEW FIAT/PEUGEOT etc

This is the problem, it happens everytime it rains. It can be seen on this link.

Re: WATER INGRESS - NEW FIAT/PEUGEOT etc

I have been told that a cover is available. Reference Fiat Article no 504267418. Anyone have details on this? The pdf file I have is in German and it has the above reference number.

Fiat's reply is.....

Thank you for contacting the Fiat Information Centre.

In regards to your query, I am unable to locate an article from Fiat no 504267418.

I would recommend that due to the issues you have encountered if you can supply name, address, contact telephone number, car registration, model and a brief description of your concern.

I will be happy to forward this information on to our customer service team where a dedicated representative will be able to look into your case.

Telephone calls to Fiat UK are no help as they say that they know nothing of the above Fiat part.

Re: WATER INGRESS - NEW FIAT/PEUGEOT etc

My scuttle is bowed allowing the rain to pour through a 15mm gap between its seal and the windscreen. There is also a 3mm gap at the centre join. My injectors are sitting in a water bath. Until Fiat come up with a proper answer to this I am using duct tape to cover the15mm gap, and mastic to fill the gap in the join. It is not pretty but at least it has stopped the rain cascading all over the engine & electrics.

Re: WATER INGRESS - NEW FIAT/PEUGEOT etc

On 16th Oct, I went to the Fiat Stand at the NEC Caravan & Motorhome Show.

I spoke to Bob Robertson of Fiat UK.
He said Fiat had been deliberating on, & had now decided on, which mastic they intended to use to successfully tackle the water ingress problem. They were now in a position to commence working on vehicles whose owners had reported the problem to their dealer.
There had been no re-call because they had wanted time to find a satisfactory solution.
He said the following work would be done:-
  • 1) Spray the parts affected by rust with some type of water inhibitor.
  • 2) Put a cover over those parts.
  • 3) Enlarge the water drains in the rubber drain (scuttle).
  • 4) Use the mastic they had decided upon to seal the scuttle to the windscreen.
  • 5) Use the same mastic to seal the gap at the centre of the scuttle.
He said I should contact my local dealer to arrange to get the above work done.

I phoned Platts of Longton (01782 599600) today.
They said they were only authorised to do (1) above.

I then phone Fiat Customer Care (0080034280000)
Richard Swiatek told me :-
  • Platts were correct.
  • He said Fiat were still working on which mastic to use.
  • He said News Bulletins had been posted about the problem. I said I had received none. He said he would post copies to me.
  • He said that when the mastic was decided upon a recall would be made - in weeks rather than months.
Obviously these two Fiat representatives have been given conflicting information by their superiors to pass on to the customers.

A little information sent to every owner would have helped Fiat's diminishing reputation.
