Re: WATER INGRESS - NEW FIAT/PEUGEOT etc
On 16th Oct, I went to the Fiat Stand at the NEC Caravan & Motorhome Show.
I spoke to Bob Robertson of Fiat UK.
He said Fiat had been deliberating on, & had now decided on, which mastic they intended to use to successfully tackle the water ingress problem. They were now in a position to commence working on vehicles whose owners had reported the problem to their dealer.
There had been no re-call because they had wanted time to find a satisfactory solution.
He said the following work would be done:-
- 1) Spray the parts affected by rust with some type of water inhibitor.
- 2) Put a cover over those parts.
- 3) Enlarge the water drains in the rubber drain (scuttle).
- 4) Use the mastic they had decided upon to seal the scuttle to the windscreen.
- 5) Use the same mastic to seal the gap at the centre of the scuttle.
He said I should contact my local dealer to arrange to get the above work done.
I phoned Platts of Longton (01782 599600) today.
They said they were only authorised to do (1) above.
I then phone Fiat Customer Care (0080034280000)
Richard Swiatek told me :-
- Platts were correct.
- He said Fiat were still working on which mastic to use.
- He said News Bulletins had been posted about the problem. I said I had received none. He said he would post copies to me.
- He said that when the mastic was decided upon a recall would be made - in weeks rather than months.
Obviously these two Fiat representatives have been given conflicting information by their superiors to pass on to the customers.
A little information sent to every owner would have helped Fiat's diminishing reputation.
