Technical Multiecuscan

My multiecuscan arrived today, and I've downloaded it on to my laptop, was reasonably easy to install I will plug it into the car tomorrow and see if I've got it right let the fun begin
Do let us know how you get on. I found downloading the program to the laptop is the easy bit. Getting the car, interface and laptop to speak to each other gave me a fair bit of agro. It was all in the settings (baud rates etc) and took me a wee bit of intense concentration, and a lot of help from Grant at Gendan and folk on this forum, to get it up and running. Never had any problems with it since and I find it a very useful tool. Using it has greatly expanded my understanding of a lot of aspects regarding vehicle systems and diagnosing related problems. I highly recommend plenty of "mucking about" with it as it's quite difficult (but not impossible) to do any serious harm and you'll learn a lot, Graphing sensor outputs was a big eye opener for me. and I automatically now do a whole vehicle scan before starting anything like a service or "serious" repair work - That way, apart from knowing if there's an existing problem, I also can be pretty sure that if I end up with the MIL (CEL) illuminated, or a new stored code, then it's very likely to relate to something I've been working on - I have been known not to reconnect a sensor wire, oops!

Slight aside, but I use the iPhone version with a Bluetooth unit plugged into the diagnostic socket. Worked ‘straight out of the box’ with only the very minimal amount of setting up (confining the make and model…). That was it. I’d expect the laptop version to be equally easy…

In passing, the plug in Bluetooth unit also works seamlessly using the CarScanner phone app with my 2013 LandRover Defender and my Skoda Kamiq too.

I prefer a wired connection because, although perhaps unlikely, if you loose connection whilst performing some tasks it may land you in a whole lot of trouble. A wired connection has to be more certain.
