fell asleep last night, woke up this morning to find that 4 of my contacts had wrote "is this really you :S" then a link...

i tried to open the link (at that point i had only read one of the open windows) and it wanted me to run a program, which sounded *sort of* ok to run, so i opened it, and it did nothing...

then i noticed that the others had identical messages... halfway through a conversation in one case...

so i was talking to two of the contacts this morning - and they said that the same thing had happened to them, and it had screwed up their PCs, making them reboot...
so i can assume that this program was harmful?

oh, and cos nothing bad immediately happened, i went online banking just after i opened the program

running a virus check now, found one trojan so far (after weeks of virus-freeness)

oh, and my brother had the same thing happen to him, and he scanned the program first for viruses, and nothing came up.

any advice?
anyone had the same happen to them?

OOPS!

You got the msn worm

Don't know what anti virus you're running but to get rid of it use AVG free edition and do a full scan. should wipe it out ok.

I got a link to a website via MSN off a FF member the other day. Just closed the window. :) lol

Didn't even know I was still on his contact list tbh.

im running avgfree scan as we speak.

and as for the program name or the trojan name, really cant remember, despite the fact that it was only an hour or two ago lol

all i remember was that the program sounded like it was a picture opening tool... or else i dont think i would have opened it.

im well pished off with myself now - im always bitching at other people for doing this :bang:

so what can it do to you?

im guessing online banking was NOT a good idea :mad::mad:
If it's anything like the one I got, it's trying to get your MSN login details to spam others. :(

Have you looked in your history to try and find the site in question???

when ever anyone sends you a link, ALWAYS confirm what it is and make sure its the actual person your talking to!

What you did was Daftness!

aha, dopey me.

the address starts with msngallery.gigacities.net

so far, ive had none of the problems that lolita describes - havent restarted yet tho, but closed messenger.

yes, i am stupid :) it sucks when you do something that you ALWAYS tell other people off for.

them bastard viruses have been going around 2 long now to kill the ******:

easiest way i found for my cousin (shes blonde) type the exact phrase of what it said in google. "hey check me out in my holiday pics" something like that and you will get 1000's of answers.

seriously google tells you everything

If it's the one my brother was telling me about it is a self-replicating worm which does indeed send itself to people on your contacts list, usually in the form of a zip file.

I just spoke to my bro (who works in internet security btw) and he reckons if you get rid of it early enough you should be ok, but ffs change your bank login details just in case.

I love people who run that s**t without thinking keeps me in a job on the side easy money .

I've had 2 cases of this MSN crap worm / trojan in the last 2 weeks. Sorry to say but on one of the clients computers I had to format and start again it embedded itself into too much of the operating system due to the unique way windows works .

You have to practice what you preach munkul :p

bummer.

well, the scanner picked up three threats, i clicked heal, but they are all in the vault now, it says "healable: no"

they are all system files. what should i do?

i admit im a noob when it comes to this sort of thing: its never been an issue before.

Are you sure there not just named like system files?. If delete them completly tbh once you have done a reboot.
