General mk1 punto 60 sx rad

Hi

I filled my radiator this morning to the max line of my radiator and i went round to my mates and to the town and when i parked back up at my mates and left it it has dropped most the coolant i filled it up with this morning you got any ideas on what this could be ? :bang:

A coolant leak from somewhere. Likeliest causes of big coolant leaks are core pluga, radiator and hoses. Re-fill and try and spot where the leak is.

hello i am just wondering what the temp guage position would be for putting a new rad in the car currenty it is at third past the qaurter mark then the fan kicks in and when it goes off the fan kicks in again when it is just about touching the half way mark would you say this is normal or is it abit high and will have to bleed it again ?

I think it's OK. Keep an eye on it, though, and the coolant level, as with all new fittings

this temp reading is when im on tick over it drops as soon as im driving would u say it is normal ?

That's normal behaviour -- when the car is stationary there's no air flow through the radiator to help cool it (and the temperature will rise until -- we hope -- the fan comes on). When the car is moving there's a steady air flow through the rad.

i know this is about off the subject of the radiator does the car become more smokey when accerating and on idle if its low on oil ? and i am going to check the level of coolant tomorrow

The only answer is maybe -- but:

a. It shouldn't lose oil at any great rate
b. it shouldn't smoke

Dry and wet compression test should reveal where the oil is going (assuming no obvious leaks -- Puntos are prone to perforated sumps -- rust get to them).

it doesnt lose oil at a great rate and the smoke isnt properly think white smoke

even thought the car has an oil leak which is dam annoying as i have spent £110 on it getting new crankseals and clutch in it and it still didnt solve the oil leak ! :bang:
