Hi,

I am looking at buying a semi-cheap cd-tuner + set of speakers for my 1st car - a Punto 1.3i 60S (R-Reg 1999)

So far I have found this for the CD-Tuner:
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4668.html. My 1st Question is how would I mount it / would I need to purchase a 'facia' to go around it, because I have seen some on other sites ... and I dont know if I need one

Also, I have found these speakers:
Front Dash 87mm - Blaupunkt GTx-92hp
Rear Panel 100mm - Sony XSF-1025

I presume I can just fit these with no additional casings (I know that I will have to cut a bit of the bottom of the front dash as the depth is about 1/2 cm to deep).

Any help on what I should be looking for (if the above wouldnt work) / speakers / cd-tuners you have on your punto would be much appreciated......

Thank Guys!
Michael Morris - A 17 Yr old with his 1st Car - WOOT! lol

Pioneer do a direct swap for the dash speakers...and probably the rear speakers...not sure on the model number though.
Infinity 3002cf fit the dash fine...they normally cost about £50 a set.
Either that or these should fit fine...they cost a little more than the dash speakers you suggested but they have a slightly greater range and don't need quite as much depth to mount into.

The Headunit will mount without a fascia...the Mk1 stereo slips right out and the new one takes it's place...the wiring loom should match up easily enough.
You might need 'stereo removal keys' to take the original H/U out...but you can make some up using a couple of pieces of thick-ish wire bent into U shapes...you'll see waht I mean.

I found this reply quite a lot when i asked.

Don't buy rear speakers!!!
Punto ELX door cards have 10cm speaker pods in so better for up front. Then car audio security have a load of great deals on sub/box/amp/wiring kits. As for HU just go with what you like.

Sorry if any of the above info is wrong, just passing on what i was told.

Good luck with it mate and good luck on the roads. I loved getting my punto when I passed

its not 10cm, its 6.5"/17cm :) these door cards come in 3 and 5 door elx and sporting/gt.

your best to get them amped up for max volume and bass :)

then add a sub or 2 if you want.

and you will probably of got more help in the ice section, not in punto styling.

ok, thanks for your help. Erm, these 'door cards'? I dont have any speakers in my doors (I got a 3 door car) so I presumi I would have to cut a hole in the door to fit these speakers?

so I will get some speakers for the HU, maybe a sub or two, and some speakers for the door  .... hey I might even buy a 'bass tube' (or whatever its caled) but then I wouldnt have any space left in the boot ...... so I think not :p

Thanks Guys, Keep the suggestions comming

p.s. Do you think I will need to re-wire the sound system? or will the existing wires do to connect to the speakers??? (forget about the subs - just the HU + Door)

The door cards will pop out of an ELX and into ur punto if you can find 2 good ones at a scrapyard. So rather than cutting yours up just swap the door innards.

As for the wiring you should be able to use the same wiring for component speakers but will need a decent guage wiring kit for sub. Best thing to do is amp your front speakers and sub becasue rear speakers make little difference when you have a sub.

ok, so I would find a set of Door panels for the ELX (i presume they are 3 door size) and then add some subs in the back. How would I fit the subs / where would I attach them (e.g. on the rear shelf (the removable thing) or try and squeeze them in next to te rear speakers???)

As you can tell - I really dont know what I am doing .... :p

I think I may go make a new topic in the ICE section for some more advanced help ...... or maybe I could just buy one of your cars ..... yea .... i like that idea more :D

If your going for subs I'd say your best bet would be to have them in their own boxes in the boot. Small subs are usually at least 8 inch...so they sinply won;t go on the parcel shelf as it'll just collapse.
Subs will need an amp to run properly...running them straight from your H/U will pertty much kill it's internal amp. They amp will need wiring from the battery and to a suitable earth point(there's one in the boot i think) and from the H/U.
Take a look on a few ICE website at amp/sub/box packages...they are (usually) the cheapest way to get everything you need to get a sub or 2 in the car.

As for wiring the new speaers in...the existing wires will do fine...although you could swap the existing speaker wires for OFC wires if you can be bothered. I'll wanr ya now....FIAT have strange plugs on the ends of their speaker wires...when I changed my dash speakers I had to remove these plugs and put new spade terminals on the wires to connect them up....so you might need a few spade connectors....take a look at the dash speakers or rear speakers first to see what I mean...the connectors they use are both the same.

ok, subs are a no-no .... sounds too expensive (mainly cus of the amp)

In think I will just put some spekaers in the dash, n get a new HU.

Thanks for your help guys

Michael

also on a side note ..... the speakers are nackered, do you think that the HU could be to do with it as well?

The standard H/U and speakers are pretty well matched...otherwise they wouldn't use them.

Just having a quick look at the sub/amp packages on caraudiosecurity.com ...they can do 10" sub + amp for £85 which could be worse.

I think if you are looking to avoid the sub route for now...I'd be tempted by the following...
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4667.html ....£50
http://www.mcs-direct.co.uk/acatalog/info_5_3002cf.html ...£30

I had the same setup(but with a slightly more powerful headunit) in my Punto for AGES until I sorted out some amped 6x9's...I can't fault it for clarity, although it isn't the loudest system out there.

something me and my cousin did was to get volkswagen polo tweeters for the front speaker mounts, in both of our puntos. it did away with much of the midrange, but left in its place some EXCELLENT high frequency sound, and all guitar music sounds great.
but then, it all depends on what you listen to, and whether you like that sort of thing.
im still planning to upgrade the back ones with 6x9's so that it balances out the audio range, but thats on the back burner at the moment, and also, my car is so loud that it makes bass kinda pointless.....
