General Mk1 Cabby Common issues

its things like that I wouldn't have known about lol

Cheers.

I am going to view 1 tomorrow so hopefully things going to plan I will have 1 tomorrow :slayer:

+1 with regard to hood.

Also in respect of the hood, check the stitching around the rear window, it can rot with age. The tell tale sign will be vertical ripples in the rear window where the side tension is compromised.

If the rear window is at all cloudy, I would recommend Renovo window polish. It is expensive (cheaper on ebay), but works very well.

Look for tears in the hood on either side above the trailing edge of the doors. This is caused by the central reinforcing bar of the roof not operating properly when the roof is opened, creating a scissor action. Even if ok, always check this bar when opening the roof.

One final issue is drips from the front corners of the roof. I lived with this for years, having adjusted the windows many times without satisfactory results. There is a simple cure, however, which is a thin smear of silicone grease once every six months. The car has been dry ever since.

We have had our Cabrio for 14 years now and it has been a great little car.

well thank you for that, I have been to look at 2 and walked away from both, I am starting to think I wont find a good one.

May just go looking for a Mk1 Sporting instead lol

The first one (white) I drove al the way down from Newcastle to Nottingham to view it with the idea of driving it straight back as the advert I saw for it said it had Tax and I asked them and have the text to prove that she said it was Tax'd, got there after a 5.5hr drive (2hrs stuck in traffic on good Friday) to find it was not Tax'd and its not in very good condition either.

The red one looks fun lol

Now putting the idea on hold as I am now moving house instead lol

It says on the add of the white one tax has just expired ..

Isnt the tax system changed anyway.. * remaining tax cannot be transferd over to new keeper, eg if you have 6mths tax on a car it is lost when sold. iheard someone talking about this the other day..not sure if true or not but if so..it don't matter what car you buy in the future you have to tax it anyway.

I saw it on a different site and I even text her to make sure it had the 1 month left as described. Nevermind lol she sold it a day later.

Yes you are right the Tax system is going to change but not until the 1st Oct this year and they are binning the Paper Discs in the windows too, its all going to be done on-line and you can even pay for it monthly.
