you need to make sure that all the components of the braking system are free ie nothing seized
you also need to consider if the pads/shoes have gone off with age/getting hot due to old age heat
if you make the braking system as it was when it was new ie everything in good order then standard mintex type pads would be more than adequate:)

Punto GT (or Alfa 155) fronts will just bolt on. But consider the possibility that the rest of the system may have an issue. And make sure your tyres, suspension and etc. are up to it.

Just changing the calipers, pads and disks will get you nowhere if the problem is elsewhere. The stock set up should be adequate given a standard engine.

The breaks on my mk1 1.1 punto are shockingly bad so thinking of getting these and some green stuf pads. ino it says for the 1.4 gt bit will they just bolt on as i have 16" alloys on aswell.

back discs wont just bolt on, for bigger brakes for the front see the FAQ's calipers you can used 2nd hand ones, its not advised to use 2nd hand pads an discs though

Have you checked the number of studs / bolts on the new discs and what the wheel hub will allow?

I.e my 1.1L mk1 has 4 bolts per wheel, and 4 holes in the front discs.. (same spacing)

As long as the discs will fit on it will do me :D

THEY WON'T FIT THEY ARE REAR DISCS FOR A 1.4TURBO

you need if anything new front discs and pads along with probably some new rear shoes and a good brake (not break) bleed

Then they will all be fine and dandy

P.S 'driving in the spirit of competition' on public roads is a great way to lose the license you only just got as that will be your allowed 6 points gone in one go, especially not a good idea with dodgy brakes (not breaks) as you are even more likely to have an accident and get done for dangerous driving or driving without due care

Which are the same as front discs on a Sei/8v Punto, I have a set on my van and a Sei to compare them to ;)

OP if you want better brakes forget those get a set from a 1.8 Marea. 257mm vented discs and bigger pads then the 257mm solids. They (carrier brackets) bolt on the 8v afaik (y)
