Time to change the clutch on my Mk1 55 SX.
Old unit is past its 'Change by' date. Loads of clutch judder when pulling away in 1st. Number one son is learning to drive and he doesnt appreciate driving a pneumatic drill!

Question is, there is a wide variation in the cost of after market clutch kits. Any reccomendations as to the best quality kits please?

100% agree. I wouldnt buy a kit off of ebay. Nightmare in the making. :bang:

I was looking at the following: OES clutch kit from Brakes international, £74.35 inc VAT & delivery. Same place advertises an "After market clutch kit" for £47.63 all in. EuroCarParts are advertising £76.80 for a LUK clutch kit, and £62.40 for aTransmech equivalent.
Nearest Fiat garage to me, Ancaster of Welling, parts department havent had the"Picking up a ring phone" course as yet. So no price from there.(n)

A1 Motor Spares are quoting £55.74 inclusive for a Quinton Hazell kit.

Thoughts on above?

Agreed, but the car is a second vehicle for me, really there for my boy to gain road experience. He shys away from driving my Passat 130BHP TDi. Kids these days eh?
Having said that, I like nipping around in the little Punto, it drives like a go-kart. Nothing like the Austin A35 I practiced in!

Now I'm showing my age. In my defence, the Austin was two years older than me.....

Any way, I'm leaning towards the QH solution. I know the name, always good quality parts. I dont know any of the others.

Any one had a bad experience with Quiton Hazell?

yep me
handbrake cables made of cheese
stopped buying quinton hazell this last 10 years as they lost the plot
sold out this year to klarious so hopefully their quality control will go back up to what it was in the 70's

Large Michael at eurocarcare in Derby: 01332 345869 (It's Cento Time on eBay).

But (important but) -- juddering on take off could be a rear gearbox mount at end of life.

mk1 punto rear gearbox mounts used to break easy when the fronts got shunted but i never changed one for play
im sure they used to be £12 new from the dealer:D
