I am currently driving a Mk2 wish I am going to keep as my daily and I am eyeing up a project car for when my Lass passes her test and she can have the Mk2 and I will have my Mk1, well I say Mk1, I don't have one yet and I am in the market for 1 in the near future as a project.

Now I used to have a Mk1 Sporting 16v and had it chipped and played with to 99.7bhp and loved it so that was my first thought but when browsing I came across a nice little 1.7TD and was wondering what they are like???

Has any-one ever found out what the engines are capable of???

I am thinking along the lines of the 306dTurbo where its a really **** poor car stock but the engines can be tuned to insane power. i'm not going for 10sec 1/4's but I would have thought 120bhp should be easy out of them surely???

I bought mine as a Project.. turned out to be a bargain..!!!

off ebay unseen,
minor front bump, "assessed" by recovery agent as "beyond repair",
tow-started it, drove the 150 miles home faultlessly ( steady),
had 130K on, FSH,
( after prising open + trueing up bonnet) changed oil + filter..laced up the broken headlight mounts,
time for some fun,

ran REALLY strongly,
BUT over-pressure light would come on after 3,000 RPM @ 95 ( apparently ),
gave great economy, and a nice ride ( all SX spec I think, sunroof, PAS ,EW's)

after 1.5 years I wanted a change stuck it on ebay at £300 start,
guy ( a fan) offered me £350 in 1st day,
happy..!! YES, :D

good solid car preferred the MK1 personally..on Mk6 Twinair now..

I had a string of GOOD Tipo TD's 1929cc,:worship: the punto was just as nice to drive..

little lacking in TOTAL power( bottom AND top),
but a great car nonetheless.. just remember they ALL sound like TRACTORS:eek:
