hi,
I have 18 year old punto mk2.
Today I inspected the wheel arches and found 2 big holes half way up on drivers side.they are really rotten.
why didn't fiat fit plastic liners in the arches???
I know they were treated, but finding 2 big holes is no joke.
Was it so expensive to fit plastic liners, doesnt matter how much you
dip and waxoil them they will rot.
not happy.

Mk2 got front and partial rear inner splash guards

Mk2b got just front (same design im lead to believe)

But at 18y/o this is a very very typical age for puntos to drop off the earth and to scrappy heaven....

YES,but the rear partial wheel arch liners are so small in the punto mk2.
I don't understand why manufacturers don't fully line with plastic such
a vulnerable area.

Plastic keeps the water and debris in. Regular maintenance is the only true prevention. This is what killed my car off, just grew from there. Then you're near the fuel filler, seat belt anchors, etc.,

I tried really hard to beat it, but eventually it beat me

Must depend on location and model. I got mk2b with full front and rear wheel arch liners. Engine guard too. Must make a big difference.

I took the driver side rear arch liner off for the first time before winter and found it seemed visibly perfect apart from rust under that plastic part on the door sill that you can unscrew.

Still hoping to get to 300,00km but maybe i will be dead before then at the current annual mileage rate.

Hi mate:) I've got a rusted out going for scrap punto mk2 sitting in my yard at home. The reason on this one is a small fiber cover plate stuck on with sealer at the factory has slipped down during production! It is on the drivers side up in the rear wheel arch. You can clearly see it from the factory as its painted.
It caused the rear inner arch to fill with water and road muck eventually blocked the sill drains. Caused the rear arch and sill area to totally rust out from inside. I cut the outer sill open ..it was full of mud!
