ah its been a while since i owned carbs - classic beetles and a mini where my first 3 cars 
Not to be mocked though, they are mechanical and mechanical things can be bodged and made work in the middle of a field and you can then limp home. If your injector fails then thats it, its broken and not going anywhere without a replacement. People are too hard on old technology -seem to forget what can be and was achieved with old technology. All the off-roaders i know spend oodles of time retro fitting carbs and other mechanical devices to new off-roaders so that they can be fixed when out in the middle of nowhere.
I think there is a happy medium to be had between the old and new tech, i've love a carb'd car but with modern wideband lambda fitted to aid properly setup of the carbs.
I'm waffling again lol. But don't despair homeward, my cinq is called Betty so there will be a Betty in attendance
