Hi all fiat forum fans i am looking for some helpful advice for my fiat ducato 2.8 jtd model 2001 which now has an injector warning light and hot start fault.
The red spray looking (injector) light stays on for approx 5 secs when you turn ignition on but will start when engine cold bearing in mind glow plugs have finished 3 seconds earlier. But any time the engine is warm it tends to crank over at normal speed but does not start, come 3-5 hours later red light still comes on for first 5 secs but will then start.
If when hot you release key to stop turn over it appears to try to catch but to late to have a chance.
If you try and start the van when glow plug light goes off and manage to start by pumping throttle ect the red light remains alight to you stop engine but will always run smoothly as you might expect .
So van will just about start when hot but can take 10 attempts or so.
Van is high mileage but sound smooth enough and no obvious smoke ect.
Any advice welcome cheers mark

Hi thanks for the reply ,what does a leak off test imply that there is an air leak back into the fuel system by the supply pipe or return pipes cheers mark

Injectors worn, the tolerances in common rail injectors are only a couple of microns. Mostly they leak all the time, but sometimes only leak hot or cold due to expansion/contraction of injector components. If you have a no start condition its usually sufficient to simply remove the return pipe from the injector to see which ones are bad.

Hi all anybody had to replace fuel line return pipes before, not obvious to me where they are probably against bulk head ,has anyone found any images of engine and parts anywhere cheers mark

If you're asking about replacing the return line with regard to a leak off test, the leakoff test is performed on the return port of each injector to compare the volume of diesel that each injector is returning. If you can't find the return lines then I doubt you're competent enough to work on the injection system yourself, you should find a local independent mechanic.
