I am from New Zealand and own a 2002 Punto Sporting. Ever since I bought it, it has been trouble. First, the fuel supply system started to shoot fuel out of the top of it, I have no idea if this is common but oh well, its fixed now and I ordered a Meat&Doria replacement. And more recently, the power steering has given up, I am a learner driver and was practising 3-point turns when it decided to die on me. I have no idea what the issue is.

Hi and welcome 
Did the power steering start working again after turning the engine off then on?
The power steering is probably nothing serious, usually caused by power supply (it's an electric system).
Weak battery or failing earth are typical causes.
I would start by thoroughly cleaning the negative battery post and connections.

When it happened the first time it did come back online upon turning the engine off and then on again. But when it happened the second time, the light stayed on and I still had no power steering.
Update on what the auto electrician said: he said that the circuit board is fried and need replacing, and the power steering motor has been sent away to be reconditioned.
