General Marea 1.6 st. Moritz owner from The Netherlands

Hi everyone!

Recently I became the owner of a Fiat Marea Weekend 1.6 Weekend st Moritz.
My love for cars (especially obscure Italian cars) started sitting in the back of my dad's Tempra SW. I loved that car. When it was time to replace it I begged my father to look at the gorgeous Marea SW but eventually the Tempra was replaced by the horrid Renault Laguna...

My first car was a Lancia Gamma Berlina S2 that I still own and cherish. Up to a month ago my daily transportation was a 2014 Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.3 diesel (company car). Since I changed jobs I had to buy a private car and it became one of my first loves; a Fiat Marea Weekend.

It has driven 190000km (120000 miles?) and is in pretty good overall condition.
Some small things that annoy me:
- The exterior has been neglected so the clear paint has come of on the bonnet and a bit on the roof.
- The steering wheel isn't centered
- The drivers seat needs new foam
- God that 1.6 is slow...
- window wipers don't come back to the correct position once you turn them off.
- I need a new leather Gear knob...
- A leather interior would be nice... Is it possible to put a Lybra or 156 back seat in the Marea? I know you can install the front seats of these models.
- The sound speakers are awfull.

But overall it's a great car with a vast amount of space and it drives really well. I also find the the overall use of materials in the cabin outstanding considering it's age.

welcome to the forum.

paint peeling - clear coat from the 90s was awful, mine is peeling badly too, a respray is the only fix once it gets beyond a certain point, i'm saving up for doing mine (contemplating doing it myself).

steering wheel not centred - you need to look at the wishbones, and the steering arm articulations. It's likely that the bushes/ball joints are worn. if necessary, change the parts and have the tracking set.

I'm surprised they sold the end of line special edition St Moritz with such a small petrol engine

Mine did this too when i first got it, I suspect a bad relay (sometimes i can't get the wipers to turn off after heavy rain)

the speakers ARE awful, i wired a small subwoofer from a logitech computer 2.1 sound system into the rear passenger foot well directly from the rear speaker cables in the boot pillars, even without a crossover filter or an amp, it balances out the top end of the front speakers nicely. I dont have space in the boot for a proper subwoofer, my boot is still full of pushchairs and other small child paraphernalia

all the best, have fun with the work ahead of you, like any car that is 14 years old, they demand a fair bit of attention.

preferred my Tipo / Tempra times though..,

Hope you enjoy your renovation project, it's a fine looking machine (but forget the ugly alloys (Lancia?) in the later photo.

Sound speakers are a simple and worthwhile upgrade, look on Ebay for some Pioneers etc marked for Brava / Bravo, with the extra plastic adapter mouldings and yellow wiring connectors. These will then fit directly to the contours of the front doors and the rear shelf as will as the Fiat wiring loom.

If you can find Component speakers (with separate tweeters) then you can replace all the low-quality Fiat OE parts.

Have got the marea 1.6 it is a very reliable car . I also had a tempra a lovely comfortable car but gave me a bit of trouble ?
