My 100hp Panda clutch pedal makes a noise when returning from bottom of it:s travel. It's not a clunk. It sounds more like someone crushing an empty plastic drinks bottle. There is also too much lateral movement in the pedal so maybe it's a problem with a bush. I've stuck my head in there with a torch but I can't see what's making the noise.

Hopefully the attached video will work, showing the excessive movement and someone might be able to tell me what's likely to have failed.

Try getting someone to push the pedal while you listen from inside the engine bay

It's very likely to be the clutch slave cylinder, over the gearbox

I wouldn't be overly worried about the lateral movement, the all do that, there not a precision part, and some wear is normal at this age

You will have to compare it to another, but looks about the same as mine it lasted past 200K

I did listen under the bonnet whilst the wife pushed the brake pedal up and down. It did sound like the noise was inside in the pedal area.

Mmmm

Clutch or brake pedal?

Video of "crushing an empty plastic drinks bottle" noise might help

There's only a few areas it can be

Pedal
Master
Release folks
Slave

It's just a matter of spaying each one at a time with some silicone grease and seeing which helps

Probably see 100 slave to anything else

Pedal did squeak when nearly new don't see any now, first few thousand miles

Release folks 1

Master 1 but they do fail on the 500 which is the same part

I have found out why I have excessive side play in my 100hp clutch pedal. The pedal is fractured. Please see photo. Just above where the electrical screwdriver is pointing you can see the break although it's not particularly easy to see!

If you look for a light colour upsidedown L shape that is the fracture.

I now need to get hold of a replacement pedal and figure out how to swap it over.

Has anyone tackled this job please?

Second hand would be better as the are designed to brake in a crash

Clutch pedal should go to the floor in a crash. Brake might not hence the fracture point. Personally, as its the clutch, I would weld it. There is nothing on eBay. Cue complaints of unsafe ideas. I would not attempt any structural repair on the brake pedal.

It's probably broken, because the car was used with a worn out clutch. Fiats lose clutch pedal travel until they eventually refuse to release the clutch so people heave with all their strength and - you know what happens.

They are all break away pedals

They are designed to break or bend in an accident

Fiat chose not to weld all the way round

It's not uncommon for them to fail not just Fiat

Look at the Tesla Model S and Ford Fusion accelerator pedal failures, these are designed to snap but still return and operate the potentiometer

It's better and easier just to fit the correct part, there not rare, and have piece of mind, especially if you sell the car

I tried finding a new one but the usual car parts suppliers don't have them. I'm currently waiting on replies from eBay breakers but they are very slow. They probably don't want the hassle of removing one!

Do any forum members have one please?

Just been offered one from an eBay breakers for £30 + £15 postage

I have managed to remove the circlip from the end of the shaft. Do I now have to push the shaft to the right to create a gap to remove the pedal?

Sounds about right

There's a lot of design work that goes into these, I suspect they will not be unique to the Panda 100HP

The 500 1.2 with start stop also fits the KA

I suspect the 500 1.2 without start stop would fit the panda

The only thing I know for certain is the diesel and twinair use different pedals

Not. A job I have done myself but this might help

There might be more help in the 500 section, as it more common and more 500s about

To the right, yes, 7 photo down

Got the pedal out. Broken in two places as indicated by screwdrivers in photos I'm going to buy the £30 pedal on eBay and have asked the breakers to include a couple of photos with the listing. So at least I can visually check it's correct.

I think it will be more difficult to fit the replacement pedal but it must be possible

I mean, how hard can it be? Watch this space!

Changed my mind. I have asked the breakers not to list the pedal on eBay. My blacksmith mate is going to weld it for me.

I understand the comments on the forum about the pedals being designed to break. Not everyone will agree with me getting it welded.

Well, the pedal has been welded and is back in position but I am absolutely stumped as to how I move the shaft left and through the clutch pedal. It must have at least 4" to move.

I have gripped it with pliers and with a twisting motion tried to put pressure on it to move it left. I can't really get anything behind the end to tap it back.

Any ideas please?
