Hello All

I have a feat stilo 1.6 16V multivan (03)
I'm totally new to this forum - Sorry for my bad english :)

I'm trying to locate a problem..

The whole show started 2 weeks ago..
Some times in the morning.. my car have problems with starting..
It show High Cool temperature.. But after 2-3 attempts it start and working properly..

But last monday.. Where i should start my car in morning.. Outdoor temperature was aout 10deg.. The humidity was a bit high.. and it have rained all the night..

again i got the error High Coolant temperature..
I was not able to start the motor after that..
So i got my lovely car to the mechanic.. He meant it was the generator.. so he changed it..

My cars starts perfectly in few days.. and then the same..

Now i started to make a diagnostic for self.. (im an electrician)
One of my friends told me to remove the Battery+ for some minutes.

But it took more than a few minutes.. Because i get disturbed on a phone call and forgot the battery+ (so more than 30mins without power to the cars security system)

I cleared all connectors with "electrical spray to clean contacts"
i lifted the 2 ECU-connectors carefully.. looked in them and cleaned them gently with the spray..

also some sensor-connectors..

Now i attached the plus on my battery again..
Insert my key.. and first error (Car safety feature) and the Keylock on my dash.. next error was the High coolant temperature..
Also the worst error "Loose connection"

So now i know, i need to reset my onboard computer in the car.. so it accepts my keys again..

I looked in my manual. To start the emergency start procedure..
but it wont work.. ( that blinking engine-symbol was never arrived)

I got the faulty car to the mechanic..

Computer was reset.. keys now accepted, all things in the car works..
But still Loose connection..
Tha car is not starting..

I've read that the fusebox (located over the battery could create massive el-problems) But im not sure, that this is the problem..
My mechanic will try insert another box, he can use for testing..

My own meaning is that that box is not the probem.. But i'm really not sure..

Is there a cheap shop to buy a new fusebox in England.. pls link :)

I really hope someone could give me some hints.. to check

Thx:)

Does your stilo have battery cover ?

Have you cleaned D4 connector under fuse board have a look in the Guides section of this form for more details.

Yes my stilo have a battery cover :)

Hmm D4 connector, i must look closer at that :)

thx

Is it this guide you mean..
313986-how-clean-dry-out-fuse-box-near-battery

i cannot search for a guide "d4 connector"

Sorry i have found the guide Now.. Will check tomorrow..
Thx

Sorry for the late update...

We have now changed the fusebox.. But still the same problem.. :(

When i turn the key - i got still the "lost connection in display"

Is it possible to buy cheap ECU in UK .. ??
We think this is the problem..

My Mechanic have tryed to connect an computer to my Stilo..
It cant communicate with the engine...

PLEASE - I hope somebody could tell me, what i should do - to locate the problem..

IS the ECU dead or is there another interface we should look at..

thx

My stilo has the same problem.
If you find a guy in here called yello stilo,he can send you a new ECU for the car.
About 280/300 euros I think.
He will be able to help you.

Hey again..
Finally i got my engine started..

I have changed the fusebox (used one) but in a lot better condition, than the original..

I think its was pure luck..
But when i was looking in engine room lifting some of the electrical wires..
My mechanic was sitting in the car an observed, that some of the error was gone for a few seconds..

Next step was to precisely locate the loose connection..
after an hour or so, we have pulled removed some plastic tubes contents lots of wires..

we found 2 wires that was assembled with a splice (normaly used for electrican installations) we cutted the splices and then soldered them together and isolated them with vulcating tape instead...

after that , the engine starts first time...
we used manu hours to locate it...
but in materials i have spend around 150 euro..

so i really hope we solved the problem...:)

Hello, because I have the same problem, can you tell where did you located those wires?
Maybe it is sort of a 'hotspot' for this kind of problem with the wires.
Thanks
