Those topmount strut nuts are a pain to get off - assuming you don't have the required tool ( assuming there IS a specific tool ) I ended up using a breaker bar and a set of mole grips on that weird collar whilst they were still on the car.

Looks like you have some busy evenings / weekends ahead :)

I shall just stick it in the vice ;)

aye, vice and windy gun.. Discovered the thread for the top mount on one of my new (2nd hand) front shocks was a bit messed up when i rebuilt them the other day. Hopefully its tight enough or that will have been a big waste of money as it ain't going any tighter. fingers crossed.

So anyway, some pics. Everyone likes pics

Cleaned the engine up a bit, not painting it or anything - this is as clean as its going.

Forgot to take my axle stands though so couldn't actually drop the engine, its just on 2 trolly jacks there so i just put bricks under the wheels and left wheels on for now (just incase!!) - but its almost there now. Just need to take wheels off, undo bottom strut bolts and drop the shafts out and drop exhaust off hangers and everything else is ready (although i will probably take bumper and rad off first too thinking about it).

Didn't get pics of everything but more pics next time.

yeah its one for the mk1 punto sporting 16v, i not really looked at it but Sean was quite insistent on telling me its a new one and for the engine not a normal cinq one. tbh i think its the same as the one on the seiT which a bigger one than normal for the aircon but i have never looked at numbers on either.

Off to look at new houses soon so might not get down to the car for a couple of weeks now :(

If you have a spare collar knocking about you can either weld something up (outer from an old tensioner bearing is a good starter) or even chop out a C spanner from a bit of 8mm mild steel plate (a jigsaw with the right blade makes mincemeat out of it). The vice technique is OK, but tends to bend the collar (which makes the next person along swear at you).

The real thing:

Well another week passes, been doing lots of packing of house to move but managed a couple of visits to Betty yesterday and today. Sorry the pics are a bit rubbish.

It was getting late at this point, snapped a bolt on drivers side mount, spat my dummy out and left it for night.

So today managed to a few hours as well, sorted out the mount and.....

Bought back Black Betty today, I sold it February last year - it has since had 4 owners - sure you have all seen some threads about her over the last year..

Well she's come back home, she is quite dirty and a little bit rougher than when she left but fair play to Mikey, she running really sweet. She didn't pass her MOT today though - just a few little bits, one headlight is all corroded inside, split ball joint boot and the hand brake sticking on drivers side. All is in hand, new parts ordered and on their way.

Here she is back in her corner next to her old friend :)

So within the next 10 days she will be have the little jobs done and a good wash and polish and a fresh 12 months ticket. (y)

Feels good to own a cinq again!

Sorry just started to read this thread and laughed at your Punto plate lol, I had S639ACB light blue Sporting lol.
