Technical Location of key remote receiver

The range on my key remote is not very good and sometimes it is almost impossible to find a place where it works.

I am supposing I can get inside the receiver and replace capacitors or give it a clean and see if I get better results.

I think the receiver is near the radio. Can I get to it without removing the very large black fascia thing that is under the windscreen? I am supposing i need to remove the fascia.

How long would it take me to remove that fascia thing?

What chances are there that I can get the receiver to work better?

Have you tried a new battery in the remote ?

The antenna is within the steering column shroud near the bottom. Here is a pic, the grey thing on the right is the steering column height adjuster. I'm not 100% sure where the antenna wire goes to though!

I'm with Andy, try a new battery in the key first.

Both remotes have more than 3V and the electronics look very clean. At the moment I have not tried a new battery.

Do you know what range the remotes should have?

Hi can you confirm you are talking about the remote receiver location and aerial rather than the key code aerial that fits around the key barrel to detect the code inside the glass encased chip in the key?

Is the remote receiver visible in your picture?

:shakehead: Ahhh, you know........you're right, this is indeed the antenna for the transponder chip and not the remote central locking....DOH!
