A road doesn't have to state the speed limit, and lamp-posts don't mean a thing.

Just because other people break the limit, doesn't mean you can aswell...

1st thing 1st ask them for the photo. When you recieve that see if you face can be seen in the image. If the photo's is of the back of the car a doubt it, if the photo is the front then your payin £60 and a 3points.

If the photo does not show you then say it wasnt you driving. Tell them you let a mate borrow your car and unfortunatly he let someone else borrow it bla bla bla, then get yourself someone to confirm where you were.

Not sure how the law is now as they were trying to clamp down on this but its up to them to prove that you were driving the car.

Also lamp post have a lot to do with it, have a look at the high way code, they must be a certain distance from one another either on one side or both to be justified as a 30 zone.

Also the camera must have been viewable and also there must be official council signs stating camera's or mobile camera's. This must be council approved and have the black border thing round it. Go down the road n see if it had the signs and stuff. If not take photo's of all the road proving there were no signs and from the pic you should be able to see where the camera was. If he was hiding, then that naughty police man.

Nope. They can be hidden. The law has changed.

Plus the highway code states:
"* The 30 mph limit applies to all traffic on all roads in England and Wales (only Class C and unclassified roads in Scotland) with street lighting unless signs show otherwise)"

No spacing limits.

Stating that you let a mate drive it don't wash either nowadays..

You have to give details of that person that was driving the car... if not, you'll get the ticket.. Police don't take lightly to being stuffed about...

Police are really cracking down on speeding nowadays, and the 'old excuses' are long gone.

41 in a 30mph hardly is a large criminal offence ive seen peopel do far worse than that..
that is bogue or what

they will have evidence and my guess it is a w##### of a policeman who is hiding, nothign else to do as too scared to patrol the streets is my guess (no repleis to this please)

I'm waiting for one to turn up (although its approaching 3 weeks now) and if it does eventually arrive, I'll take it on the chin as everyone should. Mine was 78ish in a 70.

You seen the adverts with the percentages of who lives and who dies ??

You speed, you face the penalty, plain & simple..

Insy, you'll probs be ok with yours TBH.. they're not as tough on the 60-70mph limits as they are in the 30-40 mph... Tickets take about 2 weeks tops...

Mobile camera's are basically at the discretion of the officer in charge.. depends how they are feeling at the time.

I've been through one at 80mph before, and nothing through the post.

at the end of the day if you are caught speeding you should take it on the chin! in most cases where thay "get" you in a van they normally set the gun to +10%+3 (for a 30 limit)so if you were doing 36 or less no points or fine, i do think this is enough leaway (sp)

i dont think there are many ways out of a ticket. but if you do try good luck, be warned if you contest it in court and the judge goes against you you could get your points doubled

i beg to differ my dad was done for speeding 31 in a 30 zone! the policeman said he was a criminal and deserved his points! when it whent to court after my dad protested the judge took one look and said" have i done something to upset you sir"to the policeman dad said at this point the copper looked baffled the judge then said" how on earth can a persons speadomater be accurate to within 1 mph " it was thrown out virtualy instantly the judge wasnt best pleased as he saw it as a waist of his tim!

there have been many inquireyies into speed guns and everyone has shown they are not as acurate as the police say!

but as for speeding JUST DONT DO IT

a track day is cheaper than a ban and fine

yes but sabre what if youre speedo was out and you didnt know? how would you feal after having to pay a higher premium for an SP30 that you shouldnt have got.

i think the law is to black and white on this same as i think if youre caught doing tripple the speed limit you should be sent to prison and that those inconsiderate a55holes who cause the traffic jams on the motorway in a bloody morning by causing accidents should be fined or sent to prison! ive lost contracts for been late cos sum idiot thaught they could get home without having to stop for a rest! i spend atleast 2 hrs a day on the motorway and espcialy on the M1 and i very rarley get (sorry GOT) above 50 cos some idiot crashed his car, im not saying all accidents on the motorway are unavoidable but i bet atleast 60% of them could be avoided if people used a bit mor thought.

and dont get me started on drink driving! i personaly think if youre caught drink driving you should loose youre licsense for good! no exceptions!


AHHHHHHH that feals better lol sos bout that just after having my licsense took off me kinda sets me on edge lol when i hear about stuff like this.

Just execpt it... I got done for breaking the speed limit... My faul.. fitted 18" wheels which put the speedo out and I was doing 45 in a 40.


I thought I was doing 41/42 so I was speeding anyhow.


Learnt from it.. paying the price every year for insurance renewal since..... so basically my 18" wheels cost me £60 instantly and about £50 a year since!!


oh well... we all do... apart from Kate cos she's an angel

Insy, if it's three weeks since you went past a camera/mobile camera and you've not had the letter then it ain't coming.
They have to issue notice of intended prosecution within 14 days, either by telling you when they pull you over or by post if it's a camera. Taking into account how the weekend and postal strikes fell I'd say at three weeks you're in the clear.

The only things you can do to try get out of it is:

1) If it was a police(wo)man with a hand held gizmo, request a copy of the documentation to prove the police(wo)man has been trained to use it properly. If he/she hasnt got a certificate the case will not stand up in court.

However, if they do have this documentation - request a copy of the calibration certificate - after time the speed guns become 'out of sync' as it were, and they need to be recalibrated every so often. I just cant remember how often? Do dome digging.

2) If it was a GATSO/similar, i think the only thing you can request is the calibration certificate... chances are tho everything is in order.
