General L/H Wing mirror temperature sensor

So it looks like the exterior temperature sensor on our Trekking is knackered so I have been trying to get a new sensor with no luck. Turns out you have to buy the whole mirror casing as the sensor is moulded into it unlike on the 500 where it unscrews. Fiat want £200 for it which seems a lot but very typically Fiat.
Has anyone been able to do a repair or mod to get around buying the whole thing?

I have a S/H mirror assembly (OEM) in North Herts from my 4x4 I'd message you if I could get that to work.
