Some interesting facts and nice to know.. 
Was speaking with some engine builders regarding the tuning of the barchetta engine and he told me that the early engines were preety good and one of the best fiat twin cams. The pistons are forged and with some lightening, balancing of the bottom end, cylinder head worked on, ie; ported and gas flowed correctly can produce power upto 250bhp..
Obviously this takes time and is costly but will be something i,m saving for and at some point have done to my barchetta...
For those with the later production models the block is different and the pistons standard.. Not so good.. !!

You got any proof the mk1 motor is with forged pistons?

I always heard the Mk1 engine was slightly better, easier to tune and had more power than the later but thought this was mainly down to the different fuel system and ECU, which is still in part true, The info about the block and pistons came from an engine builder who built engines for the trofeo rally punto hgt races. Maybe, i heard or have it wrong with the forged pistons, but he did say there was a difference with them and the block in earlier models and that they were better than the latter.
I,ll be speaking with him again in the new year and let you know what i discover..

I have heard of it having forged con-rods but not pistons. The new 1750TB Alfa engine is based on the Barchetta's engine.

Ok! Must have got it wrong with the pistons and must be the rods he mentioned, but he did say there was a diference with the blocks too.
Wonder if they scraped the forged rods in the latter models then.

The much loved Fiat Barchetta convertible was based on the Punto Mk1 platform and entered production in 1995. Designed in-house by Fiat Centro Stile and credited to Andreas Zapatinas, the Barchetta was initially produced by Maggiora at Chivasso.
The engine was a 1747cc, dohc 16V unit with 131 bhp and 164 Nm, which featured variable valve timing (hydraulic on the inlet valves) for the first time in a production Fiat car. Other noteworthy features included a stainless steel 4-2-1 exhaust manifold, piston crown oil cooling jets, forged steel conrods and self adjusting hydraulic tappets. After its launch the Barchetta received much praise for both its handling and performance, helped by its relatively light weight and excellent chassis rigidity for a convertible. The brakes were assisted by the fitment of discs all round and ABS as standard. Despite the lack of a limited slip diff, traction was also rarely a problem, even on tight corners. No variants were produced, all models being two door convertible 1800s, although some 'limited editions' were produced in various markets. Only left hand drive cars were built by Fiat, although these were also officially available in those markets where RHD is the norm, such as the UK and Japan. A hardtop in the body colour (originally only in black) was also available. For the year 2000 the range was 'revised' with a variety of mostly unnoticeable detailing changes. The most visual change was the addition of a third brake light in a blister on the bootlid. Late 2002 saw a thoroughly facelifted Barchetta was shown to the public. Featuring new front and rear bumpers the car became visually much more aggressive whilst under the skin little changed. Problems with Maggiora saw the commercial launch delayed and in the end only small numbers were built in fits and starts up to 2005.

Moreover the cars produced in the first year are faster in accelaration and top speed: the later models have 2 bhp less. Also the gearbox ratio has been made longer, both to limit fuel consumption and noise.
Since June 1998 (chassis number 37640), the Step A engine is fitted, which is claimed to be rated 135 bhp (again). This was done by tweaking the electronics, in order to get lower emission levels and lower fuel consumption. Peak torque of 121lb ft is now developed at 3800rpm, 500rpm lower, all making the barchetta a bit more responsive and marginally quicker in the gears.

I'm not keen myself but I'm all for originality. Hows the weather? A whole lot different here from last year. Thinking about heading back to Paphos for half term. Happy New Year.

but today the sun was shining again
I second that. I would pick the same as F4usT. In my opinion it is better than the original Barchetta 3rd brake light.

Like it alot, but won't really be a sight with the hood is down. Unless you got a luggage rack.
I've got one... So you could sell it to me.
Love the idea though. I'm thinking putting a red smd strip on the luggage rack.

it's good, but I don't think you can beat the original -put third brake as on first 2 pictures.
and a luggage rack looks fine (as long as it's original again) - with or without luggage!

New plans, modifications to the B for this year.
Two tone, black and grey leather seats.
Two tone, black and grey door cards with no metal showing.
Leather upholstered center console in grey
Leather upholstered handbrake handle.
Two tone leather steering wheel, black & gray like LTD Edition.
New CDA 150 closed filter and manufactured alloy induction system.
Possible twin exhaust system.
Adjustable Coilover suspension
Manufactured wind stop combined rear speaker panel
Id be happy to have achieved these by the end of the year..

OK! Guys,Girls, I need your help!
Id like my interior to look more rich, and some ideas and input would be appreciated.
Maybe someone who is good with photo shop can show me pics of how the Barchetta interior might look with an
Option 1- Grey leather (all that is black to be light/medium grey)
Option 2- All grey but center face of seats to be black and areas that usually would be metal to be black.
Option 3- As standard black only the center seats to be grey, door cards to be grey and black.
Option 4 - I,m open to suggestions and ideas.
I,ll try to show what i mean in the following pics or maybe they may help with the photo shop.
