Styling Just bought this.....(partII)

I called direct line yesterday to arrange my new insurance for picking up my 54 plate 1.6 active sport tomorrow, the reg number came up as 1.4, honestly the databases they use are rarley correct.

When i called for the quote before buyig the car they said it would be an extra 50 for the remainder of my policy (6 months) and when i called up to swap it over it only cost 10...i'm sure they just pick figures at random.

I've an Abarth with the 17 inch alloys. I'm with Tesco and when I mentioned the larger wheels they said it would cost £86 extra to insure them for the year. :(

I said that I didn't want to mention them, so the guy said ok, but if there was a claim they would only fit the standard 16inch alloys as replacments.

They also didn't give a flying fig about the Thatchem category 1 alarm. It doesn't need one was the comment!!!!!

Nor did it make a difference if I were to put it in the garage or leave it on the drive. :bang:

They sure have some strange rules working in insurance companies!!

Ive just reinsured my Stilo with Elephant, im 20 wrote 1 car off 2 years ago, and the premium is £860 and something, that with aftermarket wheels and suspension declared, no other company could get near that.
Yeah and if you have your car stolen, did they tell you that even though you have told them about your wheels and suspension, they will not be replaced in a claim ? Cuz thats how elephant work. i'm with them at the moment but i won't be next year thats for sure. If i make a claim I would loose my leather interior, alloy wheels, sunroof, rear splitter, exhaust and any other modification as they will only replace the car with the standard factory one.. Elephant may be cheap but they are crap.

Ah thats interesting to know, cheers for that. To be quite honest the cost of my mods wouldnt really upset me if the car was put back to factory, for the sake of £700 i could redo again!

I see your point though, not really very good

That sounds PAP. Whats the point of declaring it and paying for it then?

Well if I was unfortunate enough (touch wood) to have an accident I would just make sure I'd get the parts off it before the insurance assesor came to look at the car> (y)

Thats all good unless you're in a serious accident, and are hospitalised with the car recovered at the site of the crash. Then you'd be buggered. Failing to declare mods invalidates you're insurance, its not just a simple case of you losing out on the value of your car, it's illegal, imagine if you hurt someone?

You'd be liable for every penny the other party sued you for, and if deemed serious enough an accident they could well decided to make a exception of your case, throw the book at you with the potential of time behind bars, driving ban.... not to mention to bottom bustin' antics of your new cell mate bubba!

My point was that insurance companies don't give you an inch so why should you give them extra reasons to rip you off further. I'm not into body kits or dirty great alloys or slaming my car to the deck, all the mods I would make would be under the bonnet where they can't be seen. Although I have ordered the Fiat 17" 5 spokes thats all I'm going to do to the exterior. So I won't have anything to declare anyway

Except for the 5 spoke alloys :)

Yep, even if they are Fiat ones, they will wanna know all optional extras at some insurance companies.

What? Insurance companies don't rip you off. I have said numerous of times, in the 90s they lost billions (remember we're talking that sort of figure) and are only just recouping that sort of cost. Think of all the poeple you know who have had a crash....think how much they pay for insurance compared to the payout. Exactly.

If you don't declare mods then you don't have insurance so you may as well cancel your current policy, not bother getting tax and MOTs are pointless too. Should save you a fair bit.

If you have extra power under your bonnet and hit somebody and the value of the claim is serious, they will null your insurance and leave you "up **** creek without a paddle"

I find it amazing how often we get people on here with this attitude. It beats me logic that somebody would even bother getting insurance.

If however you hit me crossing a road playing with your CD player and break my spine, you will be taken to court for hundreds of thousands of pounds, if not 1mill+.

If you don't like the fact that your insurance company won't do your car up to its current standrd (like Koa), simply change company to one that will. There are plenty out there. If you aren't bothered, declare your mods and forget about it. Affording modifcations should INCLUDE the value of the insurance increase.

Just wondering if you had a crash how comical you could look pulling out the jack, replacing those aftermarket alloys, removing your induction kit etc. etc.

And also no matter how carefull you are about never getting in an accident you never know if some plonker on push bike will rear end you ;)

Sorry I had to mention that one :D
