I'm not sure my comment was supposed to be taken so seriously - but doing 50-55 mph - below the torque peak - on the motorway will cause the engine to labour on anything like an incline, enforcing a change to fourth gear - or even third if the hill's steep enough or if there's a fairly modest load and/or a headwind - so cruising at a higher speed, or gradually increasing speed to cope with the oncoming slope, would be a good idea. I'm inclined (no pun intended) to think that keeping up with the traffic is also a safer practice.
Well car came back from the garage today, oil, filter, air filter, spark plugs, can belt, water pump and coolant chane plus a full service....£300. Very happy with that. It costs me 300 quid for 2 tyres for my other car! Treated it to a bottle of fuel cleaner and a full tank of v power. Car drives like a dream!! So glad I got it now!
Well been off today for a good run of 235 miles with a mpg return of 53.1 to the gallon. Its just ace this motor. Never misses a beat and is charming to drive.
