Panda (Classic) John Dragon Man's 4x4 Sisley

Introduction

Hello!

Well, I have been waiting a long time to do this!

Introducing (Drum roll please!).....

Edit: about half way through the time it took me to get the car on the road it found the name Talon. So everyone Meet:

Great Looking car.. As i am sure you all agree!

It has its Good points:

No Horrid noises in any gear and the 4x4 system works and sounds brilliant! Its a Sisley! And it came with some nice extras such as the light grill covers.

and also nice low mileage.

And it has its bad points... Lots of bad points:

Mid body rust, This is the worst on the drivers side (in the UK) front wing:

The Doors are Rusty.. Ok, i did expect this as it seems to be a common thing on most Fiats over 10-15 years old:

And the other Door, Not as bad.. I may be able to save this side!

"Phantom Electronics" the electronics do what they want to do, when they want to do it. No Switches necessary!

Also the Fuse box now lives here :( That means that a flap has been cut in the pocket :(

The Exhaust is very broken, in multiple parts. even the down pipe!

Lastly and by far the worst, Under body rust. Now its not as bad as it could be. The rear sills on both sides have a small 1 - 2 inch hole in them. No biggy.
I have still yet to remove all the plastic wheel arch liners and have a proper look.
Here's a picture from the front drivers side wheel arch, its only a skin so a easy repair:

A bit of work needs doing to the brakes, pads i think. The fluid needs changing and the drivers side front brake pipe is corroded so i will replace that.

Also the engine needs a good cleaning up, a full on service replacing the water pump, cam belt, tensioner pulley, distributor cap and rotor arm, filters, oil, radiator, coolant and starter motor.

I also need a few things like a locking filler cap, the little clips that hold the air box together, a new boot gas strut and a non damaged back bumper.

Its the car I have always wanted right from when I was a young lad. So you can imagine how I was when I won it on eBay for a grand total of £547. Getting it from Wales To my home town of Derby Cost me £135.

With some love, care and late nights I reckon I can turn it into a cracking motor!

Oh and stay tuned as I will be keeping a Video Log of what I will be doing to the car on Youtube!

This is the video i took just as the car transporter left from delivering it:

Edit: this is how Talon looks now:

:eek::cool::cool::cool::yum:

Since then Talon has gained more lights, and now has some blue rust free Seat Marbella doors. I had also converted him to Fuel injection, however the parts i used were old and worn so now it is back on Carburettor.

This thread has its ups and downs but through the years Talon and myself have pulled through.

When you are done reading this thread, be sure to check out the little red scrap yard rescued Seat Marbella thread and also Project Fallout!

Peace all and enjoy the thread, videos and pictures!
and the brake test!!! best moment ever.. parks it up on the rollers.. with the handbrake on.. and the rollers dont move.. it actualy lifts and pushed the whole car forwards.. followed by an audible "that's a proper handbrake, that".

What did you do to make the hand brake not completely and utterly gash?! I thought woeful Fiat hand brakes were just a standard design feature?

Well the prop shaft is off, the brake flexi hoses have been replaced, and the exhaust now has a gasket between the manifold and down pipe. That was fun.. I sheared all 3 studs on the manifold. So had to take the manifold off, drill out the old ones, tap a new thread, and make some new studs. Well its all back together now. I dont know if the MOT place is open tomorrow but ill give them a ring and see if I can get it booked in even if the MOT testing guy is not there....

With any luck I hope talon and i can make it to Richards funeral to pay respects. Its the least I can do for the aid he gave making talon running well.

I want you all to know that I am very thankful for all the help and aid you have given me in the restoration of this fantastic little car. There's not many people who can say that they have the car that they have always wanted, above all other cars.. well.. guys.. Thank you, very much.

Times have been hard with me and jobs have been on and off money has been tight, but with the kindness of the members of this forum that I am so proud of being a member of, the little sorry Sisley that I bought from off a farm in wales is soon to be in a fully road going condition. Oh dont get me wrong.. this is not the end.. in fact I dont think there is "an end" when it comes to panda ownership, heh I have lots more things I need to do.

Getting my car on the road was always the secondary objective. The primary is to get it in as near show room condition as possible.

Members of Fiat Forum,
Thank You All!

- John

By 'eck: I think you might just have brought the beginnings of a tear to the corner of my eye....

When you read the spats that take place in other corners of the Forum, it's so nice to come round here, and find that collaboration and assistance are still the name of the game.... Keep up the good work, guys; and have a great Christmas...! (y)

And John: I'm sure that this is the best present you could have had... -- but I'm still amazed, awed and impressed at the blood, sweat and tears you've put in to getting Talon to this state.... Well done...! :slayer:

^^^^^ thanks guys and Merry Christmas to all of you!^^

managed to get insurance now too. £860 (ish) tpf&t. they would not insure it as fully comp as it was too old :/

well whatever. it is insured. so now my insurance fund is depleted (i actually had £760 saved up for it).
now just to tax it. i have to wait 24 hours till i can tax it online.

oh and i just come back in from fixing the earth strap. so now that worry is now gone.

however a new worry has come about. the previous owners of the car did not declare it as SORN. the SORN ran out on 01/04/2012. before i won the car on ebay. (the date i won it was 20/04/2012 - have saved the ebay listing web page so i have the proof) the car came with no other paperwork besides the V5, so i had no idea the car was not sorned..

whatever it looks like i am in for a £80 fine so meh. thats life i guess.
it could of been worse... it could of been some real bad hidden charge.

i'm just happy that i am almost there..

When the owner changes you have to re sorn it anyway, so even if the previous owner had sorn'd it just before you bought it, you would have to do it again anyway. I'm surprised you havent had a letter about it already.

Anyway, congrats on the MOT pass (y) I guess you will be atending as many shows/meets as possible now next year? Shame you have had to remove the propshaft though, you know that will means we will have a mega amount of snow that requires 4WD to go anywhere don't you:p

:yeahthat: SORN doesn't transfer. You'll have already had the fine if it were coming.

Re taxing it you won't be able to until MID is updated and most insurers only do this twice a week. Personally I'd get insurance to start and tax it for 1st Jan, if you do manage it in the next day or two you'll be paying for the whole of Dec despite only getting 3-4 days.

its got me worrying sick over it. from what i gathered i can only be fined if i re-sorn or re-tax :S:S
apparently i can be fined quite a large sum, have to pay back tax and have the possibility of getting points on my license.. a lot of this info is coming from people it has happened to :/
the thing is i dont know what to believe as everyone is telling me different.
some say i will get the book thrown at me and i may as well kiss driving good bye for a few years, and others are saying think nothing of it.

im kinda :cry::cry: right now :( (not literally but very upset over it all)

:yeahthat: not worth getting upset about it, these things happen - whatever happens its not like they are gonna take your manhood.. You got your MOT and insurance, go get your tax from a post office asap and just don't say anything to anyone and maybe nothing will come of it
