Tuning Janspeed Exhaust

Janspeed look good, I have visited their home page, look ok, £50 not a bad price either, could be worth considering, I am sure someone will tell you in more depth what you should do. How did you pick one up so cheap?

A backbox is silenced by the internals of the box, it uses materials to adjust the how the air travels through making the sound pitches differential, this is why at custom exhaust fitters they ask what you would like it to sound like.

The only way I would say of making it quieter, would probably to fit another silencer in the centre of the mid pipe, if you have an active, dynamic, active sport or dynamic sport, as they are not fitted with mid-pipe silencers. I am not 100% sure this can be done but I shouldn't see why it couldn't

Unless you can get the Janspeed backbox changed I am not sure of another way of doing this. I will research and post again as I am interested in this myself.

Been searching and there are a few other options, some more drastic than others lol.

The cheapest way is to buy external resonators, a smaller piece of tubing which sits inside the muffler/backbox which as-well as bringing the bore size down forces the air through a smaller filter or pushes the air into the materials in the backbox more, all reducing noise. I hope that makes sense
'"
Another method is electronic muffler constraints, these are like little "valves" controlled by a switch which can be on or off, having it off lets the airflow be normal and therefore letting your exhaust be loud. When on it restricts the airflow and so making it quieter. This is generally used by track day cars to pass exhaust checks, then when they get out there they turn it off lol

Any other methods I am sure someone will help, but ill keep looking (y)

No worries mate, I am considering an Abarth backbox for my 1.4 8v, apparently they sound nice, a little rumble/gurgle with a little sound.

Hmm I agree I wouldn't want a really loud backbox either, sound like a chav in a nova lol. Janspeed are a performance exhaust and so with our cars not having mid-pipe silencers probably wouldn't be the quietest lol

is it really that hard to get a twin exit pipe for a GP!!! theres a nice lookin GP on Pistonheads with a twin exit exhaust!

If all else fails a abarth back box will have to surfice!

Im really lookin to spend under 100 quid, cos got fitting cost on top of that!!!

Yhyh, this is what I have been thinking though, I personally could get an Abarth backbox fitted, or a custom exhaust fitted for around the same price. This is if were talking Longlife or Powerflow, but would you consider the Abarth backbox to be of better quality or the exhausts from Longlife lets say?

Longlife exhausts do a nice 3" twin tip which is very nice. Someone on this forum has got one I believe.

Yh! Im thinking of an exhaust now lol, gotta get mine repaired though, I think ill opt out for a nice cat back long life. but then again I might go for the Abarth and get that to a cat back. Oooo not sure

All over the counter sold exhaust systems, like Abarth, Ansa, Janspeed, Bosi etc.etc. must meet legal, European noise levels.
No so called "sport system" will make more noise than the factory exhaust....it's only in the head: "if it is expensive and called a Sport Exhaust, it must make more noise"....
If you want to have more noise, you have to delete a damper somewhere in the system, but why would you?
More noise doesn't mean more power nor speed, just irritated neighbors and other cardrivers...!!
If it's for the looks ( and I can understand THAT!!) weld a ( double) chromed tip on the factory exhaust: inexpensive and effective..!!

I was thinking of a cat back system, which does give a few gains to our GP's as they are restricted. It is about how they look this is an added bonus to having a custom exhaust made by Longlife etc. The sound is optional, personally I would like it a bit louder but more of a sporty sound than annoying other drivers as you say.

Personal preference (y)
