They are in the biscuit section because they are packaged like biscuits and eaten like biscuits, i.e. in similar situations.

They are a cakes masquerading as biscuits.

Steve, your gran is probably senile, apart from which you can't tell old people anything, they are always right just because they are older and know better.
 
i would consider myself a cake connoisseur :p, but jaffa cakes arent even in the same league as most of the cakes out there, although they are rather nice after a night out on the beers :D
 
It's not our fault your not adventurous. Anyway the whole point is that it's a cake that you can eat like a biscuit, that's why they are packaged like biscuits and sold with biscuits, that doesn't stop it being a cake.
 
People only started thinking it was a cake because it was called a jaffa cake, if it had a different name would you still think twice about it being a biscuit or not?
 
Lora, by defintion they are cakes (go hard when stale) AND the government class them as cakes also.
