Lovely stuff, I'll give it a go hopefully tomorrow if it's not raining. (y)

Phil,

I am not talking from experience as I have not done this yet to my car yet (waiting for better weather), so use your own judgement. However, I feel that you should not get any sealant over the rubber seal, just up to the edge in case the roof does not seat properley when it closes.

On a positive note to reassure you albeit slightly, remember that as much as your Fiat sunroof is leaking, it is the same setup as used on virtually every other car. Although I do suspect the width of the car is probably the culprit causing the roof to flex a little resulting in the seal to lift a little.

Accordingly, I do not think you will not need to pour the sealant everywhere!!. If you are using Captain Tolleys then it will seek out any hair line cracks anyway via virtue of capilliay action.

Good luck, Mags

Well 2 days later and I've gone through one & a quarter bottles of Captain Tolleys so it just goes to show how many gaps there were! (n)

Hopefully it's done the trick, the next big rain storm will tell me. (y)

Phil, can you still open the roof!!

I am still to brave the world of the creeping crack cure!! I have not suffered any leaks since opening and closing the sun roof again and think I had not firmly closed the roof or the roof had flexed as the front wheel was in a slight pot hole (the roof is wide enough to flex about an eighth of an inch from one side to the other).

However, after the drama of drying out the car and the inconvinience of not being able to use it when it was soaked, I will not be taking any chances and will be sealing the frame as well as checking that the drain tube is not blocked when the warmer weather returns next week.

Well done on your efforts and thanks for posting your feedback..

Mags

Yes i can still open the roof. Originally I thought you added this stuff in the gap between the sunroof and the glass but you don't! You pour it in the 2mm gap where the sunroof meets the metal of the roof:

Once you've filled the gap you'll slowly see it disappear meaning it's finding its way into the gaps which is good news. (y) I've used just over a bottle so there must've been quite a few places for water to get in, if this doesn't stop it nothing will.

Well worth a fiver per bottle.

Well last night and today it rained, and rained and leaked........

So today, I was forced into getting out good ol Captn Tolley despite hoping to wait untill I was at home with better weather. I covered the car this morning with a tarpaulin, and in between spells of dry weather have been removing the tarpaulin and applying beads of the sealant. Just put the last dose on for the day and will keep it covered for the night.

I need to use the car tomorrow so sods law it will leak, but keeping fingers and other digits crossed...

Don't forget to use your Captain Trolleys around the aerial too as this can be a source of leaks too! Cheers, Tom.

Actually I think that it was the roof wasn't closed properly as I've opened it and cleaned the rubber and did the re-set thing and it's been fine since but I'll wait till a dry day and get the seek and seal stuff out;)

I really should get a sticker for the back 'My other car is reliable'

(joking:p)

I used to occasionally get water coming through the sunroof switches. It wasn't from the sunroof, but water seeping in through the aerial mount, I'm sure. It was so infrequent I never chased it up but I am convinced that's where it came from.

Not the whole answer, I know, but worth sealing round the base there as well perhaps.

Hi all. just wanted to say i have had the same problems with my 2000 multipla...

First started with the front sunroof switches, then to the back motor cover inside the vehicle. It has gotten to the point now where it totally flows in after a heavy nights rain; where it leaked so bad it soaked right to the floor through the seat padding!

I have just ordered my Captain Tolleys, thank you all so much for your ideas and advice on here. any other solutions, or have these repairs been permenant thus far?
Paul

Hi.
We just bought 2001 jtd Multi and guess what?? It's got a leaking sunroof.:bang:

I had a look at it and partially removed the headlining expecting to see blocked drainage holes or pipes adrift but guess what no drainage pipes where ever fitted by a fiat so what ever water gets past sunroof seal it gets dumped on to headlining and then runs down the side of the A pillar trim on to the front footwell. Nice design NOT... Will have to investigate further to see if anything could be improved to stop the leaks
