Can anyone tell me how I know which version is on my Fiat 500 that I'll be getting this weekend and how exactly I can update it ? I found the adaptor on ebay for £69.99 plus p&p but they mention I need to be updated to 8.4, what do they mean ?

8.4 is an rubbish internal FIAT number. If the seller is a dealer they should know to say 5.4. The link above to 5.4.11 will work however if its a brand new car then the likelyhood is that it will already be at least 5.4.9 and will work splendidly.

Thanks Alex but how can I find out what version its on when I pick it up ? and if it is on version 5.4.9 or 11 i guess I will still need the adaptor to connect my iPod Classic, right ?
The only 2 ways of finding out are.
A> Have the dealer do a diagnostic and this may show you.
B> Try the 5.4.11 update, if it works then you had a lesser version.
Regardless of this any 5.4 variant will not allow you to use your iPod other than with the adaptor so its worth buying.

also, does anyone else know if it is in anyway possible to play music through bluetooth on an iphone, with the OEM head unit?
Fairly sure i will be dissapointed with the answer to this question, but was just wondering if there were any adapters or plug ins that i have missed which would allow me to do so.

Nope, B&M doesnt support Bluetooth streaming although at least the iPhone now does.
Also, B&M through the adaptor has the advantage that it charges your phone
and that you can navigate through your music using the inbulit controls. Far as i know you cant do that with music streamed over bluetooth.

I just want to say that Chris@souls is a total star. I got my iphone adaptor today, and it would have been two days ago if I had been at home when my package arrived. It works beautifully Chris and now I can upgrade my business vodaphone package to an iphone and play my lovely music in the car as well. I'm in seventh heaven! Thanks for your help and being so efficient.

With iPhone and iPod touch there is no such thing as Windows/Mac formatting now, and disc mode no longer exists. The device runs its own OS.
You will therefore require the Blue&Me iPod adapter in order to integrate your iPhone.
