Have a 2009 Fiat Panda 1.1. Has over the months developed an intermittent cut out. Starts fine and runs fine but the engine will cut out and restart if you are moving like bump starting or if you pull up it starts on the key. It got to the point where when it cut out the engine light came on and it took a while to start. Was taken to Halfords garage to be diagnosed. They said it neede a new crankshaft sensor which they would fit for £193!!!!. Got one from a parts supplier on Ebay for £20 as it was in an easy location to fit. Fitted new one and problem persisted which seems it was something else possibly wiring fault. Took it to another garage to be diagnosed and they diagnosed crankshaft sensor problem with code P0335. They suggested taking it to a different garage to be diagnosed who maybe are better at the fault finding. I do have a mate who is skilled in this dept who says that its probably a wiring problem and needs to know where the ECU is located. Is it behind the dashboard as i do not have a manual for this vehicle.

The 1.1 is notorious for problems with the engine ECU cable connector. The forum is full of similar questions.

There is no cure but it can be mitigated with cable ties to strap the connector hard into place. I personally think the problem is caused by vibration as the 1.2 ECU is bolted to the battery box and has no such trouble. 1.1 ECU is engine mounted.

Please dont pull the connectors off unless you really have to. If the pins have corroded then they are likely to snap of as you pull the connectors off.

normally just cable tying these connectors down are enough to fix the problem unless someone has already been there. Chain a few cable ties together if you dont have any long enough

normally the fault code for this fault is injector or coil.

here they are on a 1.1 active 09.

Did they clear old codes first? Otherwise P0335 will continue to show up even after the crankshaft position sensor is replaced.
I understand the common 1.1 ECU wiring issue usually crops up when driving, affected by bumps in the road. Is this the case for you?
A dead crankshaft position sensor will also prevent the car from running when stationary or firing on start-up.
£139 quote to change the sensor, though! Maybe they put the decimal point in the wrong place...
