Hello,

i own a 2005 Grande Punto with the 1.2l 8v engine.
I've just changed my oil, following the procedure on the manual, with the car jacked up on one side only.

I still have the car jacked up. While the car is running, the dashboard makes some alarm beeps at what seem random intervals, but no alarm lights turn on. Some beeps are also cut short.
What could it be? Faulty oil filter, maybe?
I unfortunately do not have a OBD scanner, although funnily enough i have a OBD to open wire connector, which i previously paired with an USB to CAN... But i don't have the USB to CAN device either anymore 😅.

For reference, the procedure i used:
  1. unboxed the MANN FILTER W610/3 oil filter
  2. put some old oil on the filter o-ring.
  3. screwed the filter entirely by hand with all my force, i am quite weak tbh
  4. screwed the oil drain plug back on
  5. added ~2.5L of Selenia K 5W-40
  6. screwed the oil cap back on
  7. waited a few minutes
  8. checked the oil dip stick for signs of oil, just to be sure
  9. checked that no oil was dripping from the pump and drain plug
  10. started the car for two minutes, leaving it to idle. The beeping starts. The first beep was actually with the oil warning light on, which i guessed was due to the oil pump being empty. Due to that and the fact that the light turned off after less than 5 seconds after the engine started running, i gave it off as normal
  11. turned it off and waited ~5 minutes
  12. checked the oil level, it was exactly in the middle of MAX and MIN, although the car is still jacked up on the dipstick side so there's actually more than that
  13. turned the engine back on for a couple of minutes to check for the beeping, symptoms persist
  14. double checked that the oil filter was in fact as tight as i could have it be and that there was no dripping

I've been trying a few things. Firstly, the beeping gets rarer as either the engine heats up or time goes by.
I tried giving it very delicate throttle blips (staying well below 2000 RPM) and for each blip there's a beep. No alarm lights turn on, however.

A thing i've noticed: the filter has a 1.0 pressure rating. I've read online that my car requires a filter with pressure rating 1.3.
Might be a mistake on my parts supplier's part (and mine that i didn't check). I'll keep you updated. If anyone can confirm this, it would be great. Weird however that the oil light doesn't turn on.

First, i had my supplier double check part compatibility and that is OK, i trust them...

... HOWEVER the problem seems to have gone away, but i cannot definitely link it to anything i did.

As far as i remember i did each of these separately, every single time testing whether it made any difference:
- tried jiggling the oil pressure sensor connector
- closed the doors and trunk
- fixed four lights that were causing a check-light light to light up to have all lights on the dashboard off 💡
- ran it for longer

It survived being driven at the tyre limits at high RPM without any alarm or light going off, so i guess it's solved...?

Has it gone away after a road test as it may have been the ABS wheel sensors detecting one wheel slowly turning and not the others. I have experienced that before and the error light or noise goes off after short drive.
You could prove the point by jacking car up on one wheel with ignition light on and spin the road wheel.:)

Nope, it stopped a couple of hours before the road test. Would've never even took it off the jacks it in the first place if that alarm still kept going off.

That road test also showed (confirmed) that on my car when the ABS activates no alarm or light turns on

About half steps of your "procedure" are wrong.
Oil change, level check and the startup plus idle test is done while car is on 4 wheels, NOT tilted/jacked to one side!

On fresh oil, pressures should be slightly higher, better.
And there is advice: check the oil pressure (if it's a faulty pump/inlet or just a sensor/switch).

For reference here is a 1,4 8V. Non-English video (doesn't matter here). Initial changes (cold start) are due to VVT. Ignore it in "1,2".

Even the same filter (W610/3) is installed, so you can "compare apples to apples".

Official (minimal, especially on idle) oil pressure values are in the eLearn:

It wasn't ABS activating, it was just detecting that one wheel that was off the ground with engine running turned a few revolutions didn't match the other stationary wheels.
I have seen that many times but feel free to try it for yourself to prove me wrong.

In my 1,4 8V, there is no ABS light when you start the engine, car lifted so one wheel spins.
So not always the case (probably depends on the ABS version/revision, software/firmware?)...

Or it's a feature (not a bug). One wheel spin is natural in the winter time. One wheel can slip on ice (other is stationary, sits on the dry spot on the road).
It is not a fault state (no reason to trigger any lights).
Second scenario is a brake roller test (inspection, "MOT"), one axle is in motion, the other one not (again: no fault codes/warnings).
