Afraid i dont, i didnt pay alot of attention, just gave the fella the keys and let him get on with it!:p

I think ill just have to go down halfords and see what they can do for me then.

Yeah I had all that training years ago (when I became Duty Manager I made my minions do the "dirty work" :D).

If you want a halfords branch to look at it they are within their rights to charge the standard £39.99 "We-Fit-It" cost; the policy on headunits said that if it is not a halfords purchased unit that is a default cost.

Bloody how much (n)

Yeah, for a 5 minute job! Depends on what store you go to, I would only charge the £39.99 if it was a hardwire job, if not I'd other adjust accordingly or put through the Free-Fit if it was just a 5 minute thing (e.g. MK2 Punto)

You can wire Head Unit without Ignition as Follows.

Firstly when messing near Battery wear eye protection and disconnect negative terminal first( No Sparks this way as there is no Potential Difference between Battery Negative And Chassis)

Thick Yellow wire Connects to battery positive Post (with 20 amp inline fuse)

Thick Black wire connects to Vehicle Chassis or Battery Negative Terminal.

Thin red wire connects to battery Positive Post (With 5 amp in line fuseholder same rating as the small one in the back of the head )

This will allow your head to work but beware if you forget to turn it off it will flatten your battery

Is the small fuse on the back of the head unit OK ?
Have you lightly pressed the reset button on the front of the head with a ballpoint pen ??

I fitted one into a Ford Mondeo and when it was written off (Not my Fault!!!!)
Fitted into FIAT Punto but was able to use + in Radio Loom on Car to Supply small red wire.

It is, but it's to a 5amp fuse rating, and Alpine Stereo's draw more current so a separate feed is required.

It might be easier to sell it and buy one that will plug and play.

Which HU's require no extra wiring?

Practically all of them except the higher level Alpine's don't require the extra feed, but they will ALL require the mod due to the ignition feed issue.

Your Head Produces 4 X 50Watt so it is high power it must have the THICK YELLOW WIRE connected directly to the battery !

That is Why the wire is thicker for higher current carrying capacity !20AMPS)
Alpine state this in the installation instructions.
Connect the Thick black wire to vehicle chassis (EARTH)
It will carry the same current as the yellow wire.(20AMPS)If you ignor this and try and connect into car loom you may someday find you have a underdashboard fire or melted car loom.
go to my post no 57 click on the link and it states where the above wires should connect ignor at your peril.
