Hi,

I'm fascinated by what I've read about both increasing bhp and increasing mpg by either `add on' electronics or re-mapping. Getting more for less seems close to Voodoo but if it works; why knock it? My query is about clutch wear. Ok; the biggest factor in clutch wear is how you drive, but is the standard clutch as fitted to the 105 ELX Multipla happy with increasing bhp up to 130+ long term. If not, is there a heavy duty clutch available? How practical is a DIY clutch change and is the flywheel a possible weak link in the chain? I understand it's a two piece unit on some kind of rubber mounting.

Final question. The bite point on the clutch is quite low. There's no slip, but the pedal needs to be pushed to the floor for smooth gear changes. Is this a sign of normal clutch wear, maybe a hint that it will need replacing sooner rather than later? Jim.

if you need to push the clutch pedal hard to the floor and struggle to get reverse,it is most likely that you need a new clutch due to the release bearing is wearing thou the pressure plate, the only cure is a new clutch, and not a job for the week end if you need your car on Monday,as they are not the easiest clutch to do.

Thanks Multipete.

No struggle getting either reverse or first, but the pedal does need to be fully down. This is the first Multipla I've owned/driven so I don't know how low the bite point should be.

Regards,

Jim.

My clutch needs to go to the floor too, even though I can select 1st/ reverse fine. You just get used to it after a while. But personally I would prefer a bite nearer the top of travel.
I've had a flywheel replaced before as my old Multi used to have bad vibration on clutch take up, my local dealer Yapps-Cardiff said I needed one as it is a dual mass rubber jobbie ( expensive at @ £250 echchange ) , and I can't say in all honesty that it made much if any difference. But I have read a story of a mUlti losing drive to an " internally sheared" flywheel which sounds pretty worrying.
Anyway If I were to "boost" my turbo I would just totally avoid standing start full bore take offs (way too much mechanical stress for a relatively front heavy mega traction multi ) and only use my "boost" for rapid overtaking once the gear is fully engaged. Just my tuppence worth...
