Just wanted to say I can't wait to get my hands on my new car:). Its A 2004 BMW 320D estate:D. (I prefer estates as I have a family who insist on carrying tons of junk everywhere). It certainly will be a step up from the Stilo MW, although I am sure you lot will manage to turn this into a BMW bashing thread.

Been nice knowing you all, and thanks for the help over the last year, although I may well be around here for a few more weeks yet.

.. Now off to google for BMW forums.

Good luck mate and enjoy the new car..(y)

320D not a bad car, but if I was me, I will go for the ST Mondeo estate, bigger and cheaper to run. Anyway, good luck with the BM (brother had a M-reg 320i for 7 years and over 100k, nothing ever gone wrong, just service and tyres.)

Rather a strange post for someone who reported only yesterday that the only car worse (or as bad) than a Stilo MW in the snow is a BMW

Not sure I'd call it "moving up in the world" either.

I wouldn't have a BMW in my driveway - not because there's anything in particular wrong with them - but it's what is says about the driver that would bother me (and believe me I could buy one for cash tomorrow if I wanted unlike most of the people that do drive them :p)

Reminds me of the time one of my customers told me he was getting a RR. "When you own a roller - it says something about the driver" he said.

I said I agreed with him and added "....and that's exactly why you'll never catch me driving one!" (Ex customer now :D)

Well Argo, I do agree with you a certain amount about the BMW image, but driving wise, it is just so much more refined than a Stilo, and I am just sick of the whole Fiat thing. They just go wrong too often. My neighbours 520 BMW did 190K miles before the radiator leaked and he kept on driving it until the HG went. He immediately went and bought another one.

A friend has an Audi A8 3.0tdi and it has just had so many expensive problems I was kind of put off Audi's. Also my Previous A4 had a problem with the Auto box after 60K miles. Audi solution was £3000 for a new gearbox. I sold it quick, without fixing it.

Never really liked Mercs

Mazda 6 is a nice car and I have owned one in the past, but the Mazda 2.0 Diesel engines tend to be like Abarth engines. i.e Low oil pressure and spinning bearings after about 60 - 80K miles.

The 2003 and before BMW 2.0D and 3.0D engines have 2 weaknesses, both fatal, (turbo oil seals and swirl flaps) but 2004 onwards they are bulletproof so everyone says. I hope mine will be.

For me. its not the brand or the car name.

It's the effect where you see a car coming towards you that instantly catches your eye as it's not a boring mobile.

No BMW has ever been coming the opposite way and has caught my eye.

Just like to add my 10p worth,

I went from a 318 to my stilo, BMW are FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR over priced for what you actually get, parts are astronomically priced and servicing is ridiculous.

Running it was not massively expensive but much more than my 1.6 stilo is thats for sure, comfort wise, dont really notice any difference BUT i dont use stupidly low profile tyres on my 17" rims so i dont feel every bump like others!! 225/55/17 PROPER comfy ride and with the rim protecters they only look like 45 profile.

Wouldnt call it a step up either BUT hey, like AUDI drivers BMW's are for those that think they are driving gods gift.

Good luck with that, you'll be able to attempt waving at the other executive bmw drivers who dont actually own the car. lol

seriously though, good luck mate

Just make sure the rear suspension chassis mounting
points are sound and not cracking the E46 is starting
to suffer the same fault the E36 did. The 'M' variants
had additional strenghtening plates welded in when built.
