My 2003 1.9 JTD has a problem with the ignition, the key goes in but won't turn and start the car, sometimes you can get it to fire up but you have to constantly wiggle the key and move it in and out and this can take 15 mins.
I've been quoted £900 to replace the ignition because it's got to be linked to the doors or something. I've never had the key that does the remote locking so I'm wondering if I could get a 2nd hand ignition and key and just replace that and keep the existing key for the door ?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

I had something similar with my 2004 Doblo about 18 months ago. After suffering with the ignition I then started getting problems with the doors as well. I tried the other key (mine came with 2!) and that was fine, so I concluded that the key was the problem. When comparing them, when I looked at the key end on I could see that the rectangular section of the metal was well rounded on the duff key.
The local dealer wanted something around £140 for a new key and the necessary coding, but I found a local lock specialist who cut me two new keys and moved over the immobiliser chip from the old to new for £80 which was much closer to being a bargain!
Hope this helps.
