I've got some 17" wheels I want to fit on my 54 plate punto but I'm not getting anywhere fast with them. Does anyone know what the "pins" are for on the brake drums? Are they just wheel guides and can I get rid of them? They are stopping me being able to fit the new wheels.

The pins are indeed locating pins on the drums for the wheels, they actually bolt the drum to the hub, if you could get a bolt to fit in the threaded hole where locating pin is that will fit behind your wheel face you will be OK.
something like a countersunk allen key headed screw is what you're after
