The guy I emailed is the leader of the course, not a tutor (usually PhD students) - he is the leader of the whole engineering maths course - he is the person who would have to justify what he did, not me.

Doing the right thing becomes a lot harder when it means no one benefits from it, but it doesn't stop it being right. Please don't get me wrong, I am not suggesting that you have done the wrong thing, but he has.

This once actually happened to me on my computer course. Despite having written an essay about completely the wrong topic then cocking something up in the exam which should have left me with fewer than half marks I somehow got over 70% for the two combined. I didn't tell, I needed the marks boost to drag up my overall marks for the course

Like Steve has mentioned before the "Paul" way of life will get you nowhere, all the big suits and famous peeps just lied and slept their way to the top and didn't bother to do the hard graft and they still achieved the same goal as others only quicker, maybe once you get their you could adopt Paul's morales to ensure you stay there!

Different people have different goals in life. Mine is certainly not to lie and sleep with as many people as it takes to have money, I'd rather have no money and a clear conscience and I'm sure I'm not alone in that. Rephrase, I hope I'm not alone in that.

Im sure if you had the chance, youd sleep with loads!!!!!
BTW, are you and Paul on some sort of challenge as to who can be the most moral?!?!

No challenge from me, I reckon I did a pretty honest thing and somehow was rewarded. Neo however would be arguing with the professor that no matter what, he shouldn't have those results! lol

I know when to stop haha!

TBH, I thought I had done the wrong thing after I had sent the email and posted here but felt better when I got the reply :D

i know gex had an exam at lancs uni, 24 questions but marked out of 20. Get all 24 right, and you still get 20. A crazy system, but not a mistake - maybe this was something similar?

Personbally I doubt it arc,

IIRC.. the exam was 24 marks total, but then the final score was given out of 20....eg: 12/24 = 10/20 = 50%.

Its because that lecturer of ours is very very stange. Sounds like Patrick Moore IMO, small and balding, and cant explain anything without using mathematics...He was recently slated in the course feedback we gave, as we cited far too much maths, as what use is a derivation really, if it can be looked up!!...His argument is that the IMechE needs this amount of maths, but why hasnt any other course so far been so heavy?, well discounting Engineering Maths last year

Paul, you did the right thing but I doubt I would have done the same. Those who sleep or lie there way to the top, normally don't stay there very long in my experience.

I wish the people who work for me had your attitude.

Andy

Funnily enough, I've had it go the other way. I was given 95% for an exam at school and when the teacher went through it, he had marked one of my correct answers wrongly and it should have been 100%. When I pointed it out to him, he told me I should write more clearly, even though it was perfectly clear.
