I must be mad...

i know gex had an exam at lancs uni, 24 questions but marked out of 20. Get all 24 right, and you still get 20. A crazy system, but not a mistake - maybe this was something similar?

The meaning of life is to find the meaning of life ;)

I can't see how the marks were awarded on purpose if a friend got all the same but only 46/50

Honestly is always the best policy and you did the right thing, but the lecturer didn't. He can't let you keep extra marks for being honest.

If I were you I would tell him that you want your mark changed, how can you get any satisfaction out of getting a mark you didn't really achieve.

I know everyone will think I'm mad, but that's what I would do, he has no right to give you the marks.

Agh Neo you have ruined my morale high which I rewarded myself for with a nap ;)

I can't do the above because I don't want to get annoying, I have satisfaction I did my bit and then made the same mistake despite being aware of it.

i dont agree at all. paul has done much more than the majority of people would do, his tutor recognises this, and has awarded the points on the merit of his integrity, no doubt he is also aware of pauls level of work and feels he is more than worthy to recieve these extra point as a reflection of his other work

Neo, annoying people is one thing, annoying the people who sort out your degree is a different kettle of fish!

Tutors do not have the right to just award students points on a whim. Any grades that are given have to be the result of the work submitted otherwise how would have any control over marking.

I'm not suggesting that you go out of your way to annoy tutors/lecturers, just suggesting that what he has done is wrong and shouldn't be left as is. You could say that the same would still apply as my previous statement. If the person only awards marks based on what is submitted, it won't effect your mark whether they are annoyed with you or not. It could however effect how supportive they are and how much time they afford you.

The guy I emailed is the leader of the course, not a tutor (usually PhD students) - he is the leader of the whole engineering maths course - he is the person who would have to justify what he did, not me.
